Funny seeing it described as "his Lego city" x). That being said, people ascribe too much modernity to Westeros. Nobility didn't raise their children. It was normal. If anything, royals were lucky to live at court. Most of nobility would send their children as wards to their overlord's court, resort to priesthood for general education and various knights to form boys past a certain age. The heir was a bit "favored" in the sense that they had to be trained to manage their parent's duties, and thus warranted more attention. Even small-folk didn't educate their children like we do today. Part of the education was communal, and past a certain age they'd learn a trade and live with their teacher.

I keep trying to explain this to everyone who wants battles between dragons. It's the great acted scenes and dialogue that made GoT great. When I think of my favorite GoT moments, it's usually speeches or verbal discussions: Caitlyn's story about Jon getting the pox, Jaime's confession to Brianne in the tub, Tyrion's trial outburst, Oberyn's discussion with Tyrion, Tyrion and Tywin moments, anything with Littlefinger, anything with Tyrion and Cersei talking to each other, etc, etc. Those are the great moments. The scenes in this episode are on par with some of those.

@@CoryGasaway Exactly. I always roll my eyes and heave a sigh of exasperation whenever someone complains that an episode is "slow" because it isn't action packed every single second. Battles and action scenes mean *nothing* without a compelling story behind them and you can't have a compelling story without outstanding dialogue.

Things to takeaway from this ep 1) Aegon was trying to be someone his father couldn't be to him. 2) Aemond needs some elderly person whom he feels better with to be himself. 3) Daemon isn't grey character anymore he's pure evil. 4) Even though he plotted the whole time yet Otto hightower respected amd loved viscerys. 5) Daeron is coming 🥶. 6) Cole has lost his purity and sanctity and he knows that and all he shouted at arryk was him screaming at himself. 7) arryk and erryk symbolises that there's no good side in the war and no one will benefit from it.

The twins duel is the first mention in the text of the Dance back in Bran’s second chapter in Game of Thrones before Jamie pushes him from the tower, “Bran knew all their stories, their names were like music to him. Serwyn of the Mirror shield, Sir Ryman Redwyne, Prince Aemond the Dragonknight, the twins Sir Erryk and Arryk who had died on each other’s swords over a hundred years ago when brother fought sister in the war the singers called the Dance with Dragons.” Truly the stuff of legend.

I think people unfairly compare Otto and Tywin. Is Otto as politically astute? No. But he is close. The difference is Tywin had the power around him when he often confronts Joffrey. Joffrey was literally alone and NEEDED Twyin. Otto didn't have the same political day, just the same political mind. Aegon has much more loyal people around him (Cole, Aemond, his mother, etc). Aegon has more physical power to trump Otto's political machinations. And what I love about the scene in this ep is that Otto finally realized just how great the realm had it with Viserys and that a peaceful transition to Rhaenyra would have been best for everyone, even the Hightowers. They just take a character you hate since episode 1, season 1, and make you actually say, "You know what? Though I wanted Otto gone since forever, Otto really is the best person for Aegon and really should still be Hand!" Great writing.

The scene between Criston and Arryk reminded me a lot of the scene between Criston and Rhaenyra, when he asked her to run away with him. In both, Criston's honour has been sullied, and he cannot handle his shame and guilt, he feels helpless, and therefore seeks to have the actions of another restore some of his honour. He tries to spin it as something the other should want, but it's truly all about Criston. Arryk and Erryk fighting is in some waya the ultimate tragedy. These were brothers, twins, who loved each other. Their sense of honour drove them apart, drove them to fight, but there is no honour or victory in slaying your beloved twin. There was no winning.

I love everyone who catches the callback to Tywin's comment, "Anyone who must say I am the king is no true king." That's clearly what they were stressing as Aegon said it twice for emphasis. It was meant to be caught by us viewers, especially since Aegon is not the true heir. The writing for HotD, particularly this episode, is as good as writing can get so many powerful scenes. Harkens back to what made GoT great!

The last two scenes are very significant for the characters of Otto and Alicent, as you pointed youself. For Otto is a realization that Aegon will never be a decent king, on the contrary, he will bring their ruin. If only he had been a good father and grandfather... I wonder if he regrets stealing Viserys's throne. And for Alicent is a complete destruction of the belief she clang to all these years... The fact that her father doesn't give a F about her "sins" finally shows her that all these rules and religious principles that she followed are utter BS and no one REALLY cares about them, they are only a tool to obtain power. All the shit she gave Rhaenyra for years because she slept with other people were for nothing. And in the end, I reckon they finished with their sex scene to show that Criston is taking a leading role in their relationship now. Once again, after serving Otto, Viserys and other men for her entire life, she once again is going to be used and directed by another man, the sorry excuse for a knight called crispy cole. It's interesting that she is going 100% in this hedonist lifestyle (she choses to go have sex instead of consoling Aegon or Helaena this episode) in a way to numb herself from this horrible conflict, just like Rhaenyra used to do when she was a teenager. These are different times, however, and that lifestyle coupled with a bloody war is going to drive Alicent crazy lol Amazing episode!

Team Green All Day. Ive been saying this for the longest daemon and Otto r two side of the same coin. They are upset with their kings and queens because neither listen to them, they both want to be in control, and when they not in control they both over step. The only difference between them is that they use different tools to attack their enemies. Daemon uses the blade and otto has his tongue. Anyone else notice the parallel with rhaenyra calling out daemon manipulation in this episode like how Alicent confront Otto with his manipulation in episode 9. Criston plan actually almost worked if the white worm wasn’t there I feel rhaenyra would be dead. I also feel like the writers just want to make criston n alicent look in a bad light with how they r writing these characters. They completely changed the blood and cheese event to create more drama for criston cole and alicent where in all reality it makes no sense. Looking forward to ur future videos btw.

I don't see Aegon as a good ruler because he never listens to his counsel and is agressive and violent by nature. He wasn't raised properly, wasn't loved and wasn't taught how to be a good king (at least in the show). in S1 we see that he liked to see children dying and he has bastards with common born people which is very stupid if you are heir to the Throne. Rhaenyra seems to be much more level headed and morally oriented. At this point of the story though they kinda start to became two sides of the same coin because of the horrible actions taken by both sides

9:19 don’t value loyalty ? Why people of Kings Landing should be loyal to usurper Rhaynera ? Because she started the blockade and they now starving because of her or because Rhaynes her supporter killed around a hundred innocent people during the coronation while escaping? People always hated Rhaynera and knew that she doesn’t deserve to be queen and they were right. Unlike Aegon II, she doesn’t care about small folks, she said it herself in episode 5 season 1.

Have you read the book at all? What kind of people hated Rhaenyra? The book says that no one loved both brothers and were glad when Rhaenyra captured the capital. And why should people love Aegon 2? Whose coronation caused the deaths of so many people and the blockade? Who ordered the hanging of innocent rat catchers. And I remind you that after the stolen Meleуs head, people fled the capital and Alicent ordered the gates to be locked. Pffffft. Blockades are an extremely common war tactic and everyone knows it's always the small folk who suffer the most in a war. Don't act like the Greens are so pure and virtuous and above committing atrocities. If you have not read the book, then wait to see what they do later to the Riverlands. Also, we don't know that people always hated Rhaenyra. What evidence is there of that? Quite to the contrary, she was called "The Realm's Delight."

Also, the difference between Alicent and Rhaenyra is as wide as the Grand Canyon. What was Alicent's response when Aegon asked her if she loved him? She called him an imbecile. I realize that was her way of saying "of course I do" but that is NOT the same as giving him the reassurance he needed. Did she try to comfort Helaena after Jaehaerys was murdered? Nope. All she was concerned about was damage control ovver Helaena catching her fornicating with Crispy Cole. Did she try to comfort Aegon when he was weeping over the murder of his child. Once again - NOPE! In stark contrast, we have seen Rhaenrya be a loving and supporting mother to her children on multiple occasions. The Greens can suck it.
