Humanity is cruel. But that doesn't stop people from taking a moment to look back and see all the hatred, then try to make those people stop sowing more of it. Some see the hate, and fuel it. Some see it and change it. We all just hope it becomes better in the end.

My great-grandfather was a World War Two veteran. He served with the US army in Italy and France. 36th infantry division, known as the Texas Division. He was also sent with the US 3rd army along with the rest of his division during the Italian tour. He won two purple hearts and a Legion of Merit Medal, all still in pristine condition today. He rose through the ranks to become a US Army Captain of the 142nd infantry regiment. He was a seasoned veteran, joining the US Coast Guard in 1940. He was quite the soldier, always wanting to keep moving forward. Unfortunately, he left behind a 21-month old daughter that he would never see and his widow. He fell in combat in 1944, a mere week before Christmas day. His name was Frank Strader, and somewhere in France, his grave remains still. Someday, I will be there to honor his legacy.

This reminds me, when my parents were showing me ,,cards" from 1980's Poland (,,cards" were something of a coupon telling you, how much of which specific good are you allowed to buy - for example, half a litre of vodka, pack of cigarettes, specific amount of fuel for car, and, most luxurious one, card for a car (as my parents described it - ,,you went to a dealer shop, showed this card and 69 thousand PLN and chose the least damaged car"). If you had card you didn't need, you could trade it on illegal market for something you actually needed). I remember I put on hygenic gloves and acted very carefully with it, because I really felt like I'm touching a historical artifact, and in 1980's people would just rip them apart during purchase like a ticket to a cinema. It was an interesting concept to think about - something which was so common some time ago people didn't even think about it much, then becomes a historical artifact everyone is afraid to touch.
