Couple of things - Probably shouldn't use electrical tape as it will eventually break down from the heat cycling and release from the back, especially if you use cheap tape. The wire is likely coated but the coating *could* scratch off from rubbing and cause a short. - You should insulate the back of the heater inside the case so it doesn't heat the components too much. The heat generated will heat the inside of the case faster than it will the outside and there isn't much to cool it.

Thanks for the thoughts. I agree with the tape. Another viewer suggested Polyimide tape which is a much better idea. As far as heating up inside, it doesnt heat enough to be damaging, and in fact, if your outside in cold weather it's probably better for the internal componants to be warm anyway. That being said, if it truely was a concern I think a little foam insulation could work. Thanks again.

It may be worth using polyimide Kapton tape as it works well with High Temp. The electrical tape may soften and come away exposing the element wires and then shorting out your transmitter.

If your running a 3S transmitter pack then it's doable, but you'll be drawing an extra 1A-1.5A for the heat. That means that on the transmitter pack/heat alone you would only have 2 hours but since your power the tx also, more like 90min tops of batt life. I'd rather have a good long tx batt life and swap a 4000 3S in my pocket a few times.

I'd never wire in any kind of heater like the one in the video into my radios mainboard or power wires. I'd run the heater on a completely seperate and isolated circuit of it's own with it's own power source and all. I'd also use a buck converter or similar to prevent over working the battery. We use that wire to make our coils for our vapes. NiCr (nickle chromium 80 or 200) wire is cheap. Get a roll of 36 awg NiCr 80 or NiCr 200 at any vape shop for $5 to $10 depending on the shop. We use that same wire in vaping to make our coils and they get red hot real fast and easy but our batteries always heat up rather quickly in turn. This guys idea is great but to me, questionable. I rather just wear thin cotton gloves and maybe even a "hot paw" heating pad if too cold. Also batteries really decline in performance the colder they get aswell as most rc electronics. I was out flying in -15°c and my electronics were all really really slow in response aswell as action. Servos took days to move 5° in rotation. My DX6 has rubber grips. Maybe I'll do this but lift up the rubber grips and put the heat wires between the grips and plastic case. That way my heat wire can't come loose (which with his method surely will) and short out my radio.

sure looked like you hooked them up in series. You are only getting half the voltage across the wire?

Yes. You want to hook them in series. If you do parallel they will get waay too hot.

Very nice. I worry that as the electrical tape gets warm it will become gooey and lift up in places allowing the wire to touch its self.

Yes. A legitimate concern. Another viewer suggested Kapton Polyimide tape instead. A much better option. :-)

doses the heat transfer throughout the entire case or just the back gets warm?

Michael Brewer it primarily heats the back but hey will make its way throughout. most of your hand is around the back if you are thumbing

cool idea. Might work well in combination with a radio glove. I have done a similar thing with reusable liquid chemical warmers hunters use (sodium acetate: www.rewci.com/ez-heat-reusable-hand-warmer.html?gclid=CNGd-8-p9tACFYWKswodcAgNUg) placed on the back of the radio/inside glove and they work good for about 15 mins but I found wind passing through the seams/opeings of the glove takes away residual heat quickly after the warmers get cool. It because tough to put on truly wind proof radio gloves as they don't really seal well against wind. Also the aluminum sticks tend to draw heat away from thumbs so I don't think this idea will really help that. I fly thumbs only on sticks so no big deal for me to have thumbless gloves, but thumbs do eventually get cold which is my biggest problem. Maybe this would be better because heat comes from the TX itself and at that amp draw you get a lot more heated time on that size battery. But I really want to know how to snow proof quads and cameras. Do you guys keep flying in snow?

Super idea. You can buy teflon insulated nichrome wire, then you dont need to worry about wires crossing. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192009881038?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=491644688254&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
