Yeah, Dave Byron days. He was a regular in an hotel I used to play at in Maidenhead in the 80s (The Riviera) He lived in the same road and would drop in every sunday night. We were the "resident"band, and tbh, the only band there playing 3 slots a week . We also did 2 nights a week as the "resident" band on the oppossite side of the river at the same time , Skindles which the Heavy Metal Kids played many times (as did ac/dc, the stranglers,Graham Parker,Eddie and the hot rods Steve Gibbons band,Pink Fairies, , clash, Buzzcocks Slits, john Ottway,Enid,John Cale and so many more, did i even mention Thin lizzy and the Rolling Stones😁. Unfortunatly skindles was in its death throws when we turned up and the only people that used to visit were people that wanted to revisit an icon, or just say they performed there before they tore the place down. The last well known professional that performed there I believe was Fish from Marillion who sat in with us for a few numbers over 2 nights while he was in the area. I think he was recording nearby but staying in skindles. Read up on the glass in the thames and the Morrocan waiter story, I was there 🤣

@@keithgordon620 hey, if you ever re visit, check out the Riviera. It is much as it used to be but what used to be the river bar was last set out to dining some years back. The concept is broadly the same though, the hall to the bar closest to the river, Dave would tend to sit in one of those tables and often alone. Others may join him, and he would have no issues on that, but he liked that spot and the bar was mostly completely empty on a Sunday night so I guess he had his reasons to sit where he did and just observe. He moved to the other end of town just before his death and died soon after. Tragic how so many got swept up in the lifestyle.

I saw them in 1974, supporting Nazareth. The guitarist was playing one of Hendrix’s “burnt Strats” with a crocodile carved into the burnt wood. They were actually pretty great, but mainly I remember a song called Run Run Run that was about 15 minutes long. Also, their team threw CD-sized stickers into the crowd from the top balcony, a good decade before CDs existed, and also also, they were EFFING loud. Way louder than Nazareth.
