Did you play the xylophone notes too ?? Love it. Simple yet affective. ;)
Good Sir,just a few observations from your excellent video ; Terry Daniels earned every cent for his fight with Smokin' Joe Frazier ! Smokin' Joe's hooks looked horribly brutal. Muhammad Ali could punch.Because Ali couldn't punch like Sonny Liston or Big George folks tend to dismiss Ali's punching power.However,the man could definitely punch when he had to. George Foreman was so physically strong I wonder if he came from the plant Krypton ! The way he could so casually bully large men like Miguel Paez, or even George Chuvalo, was ridiculous. Floyd Patterson was indeed a great fighter,and a man of honour.Floyd ignored D'Amato's orders and gave liston the opportunity to fight for the Title.So many modern boxers would be only too happy to hide behind their managers/promoters,unlike Mr Patterson. On a similar '' what if '' theme concerning the great Sonny Liston, imagine if Teofilo Stevenson had turned pro in late '72 or '73.A seasoned,professional Stevenson clashing with Muhammad Ali,Joe Frazier,Big George,Ken Norton,or later with Mr Holmes ! I eagerly await 1973.

Agreed on all fronts! And Stevenson going pro may be the biggest missing chapter of the 70s! That or Foreman/Holmes. I wonder if his game would've translated well to the pros or if he'd have plateau-ed early like Bobick. Gonna have to go on the list now too!

Mike Weaver made his pro debut this year, on September 14th losing to Howard Smith by 3rd round KO. He would rematch Smith in his only other fight in '72 on Halloween and lose a 5 round decision. He made his debut even before Holmes did, despite being the younger man by a couple years.

I'm an avid watcher as you know. Your reporting is next level. BTW I think Quarry's win over Mac Foster is very underrated, the man had 24 straight kos with no loses and Jerry took that cherry!
@boxingpedia

Quarry has become underrated in light of him losing to Ali, Frazier, and Norton. Those are two TOP 5 heavies of the Golden Age (Ali and Frazier are top 5 all time, arguably for Frazier). I've also heard Jerry took the Norton fight on very short notice, hence the destruction by Norton. That's HUGE marks for Quarry in my book. Would've been champ in the alphabet soup era from the 80s onward.

@boxingpedia I agree with the alphabet soup but heavyweights were getting bigger with some exceptions and quarry was smallish. Quarrys chin though might have got him to the top in the right matchups.

He knocked out Jose Luis Garcia in 6 rounds, his only fight on the year. Garcia himself was ranked in the top 10 every year so far of the 70s (10 in 70, 8 in 71, 10 in 72). So I suppose it's b/c he beat a top 10 ranked contender.
