One thing I love about this mini-series was the more brotherly relationship between Agamemnon and Achilles! For most of The Iliad, they quarreled violently. But most people forget that at the end of The Iliad (and before), Agamemnon and Achilles were close friends! Achilles almost marries Iphigenia (who wasn't that young!) and awards Agamemnon a prize in the funeral games for Patroclus! After Achilles dies, his ghost begs Agamemnon to stay at Troy foretelling his sad fate, but Agamemnon leaves.

In the Euripides play, Iphiginia at Aulis, Agamemnon killed Iph. because Artemis told him to to because he accidently killed one of her deer. Therefore she withheld the wind so there was no way off... Though Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra did hold it over her head and got a netmaker's dick wet while Agamemnon was at war. And when he came back to Argos she killed him but Orestes (son) killed both his mom and dad in law but the family was really fucked anyway when Atreus served his brother his kids

Your are refering to the later "modern" Lacedonian elite warrior culture of Sparta. Wich only florished roughly 500 years after the Trojan war is thought to have occured. Meaning that that the Spartans during the trojan war were Mycenians. These Spartans were after Troy conquered by the "modern" Spartans you talk about. Who created that infamous warrior culture and later fought at Thermopylae.

Usually Spartan women were treated pretty good partly because their husbands were mostly NEVER there and didn't care that much about how they lived (they focused on war a lot and were in it a lot to) Also by the way ALL Spartans were raised their women commanded and demanded respect. But probably since she was the Kings "daughter" she didn't go through the harsh up bringing? I don't know. I do know if you were the Kings oldest son u wouldn't go through the harsh training.

@tomenicus nobody really knows the origins of Troy:P All we know about it, is what Homer says..He says its greek.Truth to be told,the Trojans have greek names and worship Greek gods.Also they speak Greek.Half of the greek gods went with the trojans..That makes no sense if the greeks thought that Troy was a foreign state.There are many theories..i think they were greeks because many trojans had relatives-family among the Greek troops(it s said in Iliad).Yeap..it is always about trade :P

@IIOdInll I mean there are so many different verizons of the story even Homer got them second hand though I think my favorite version is 2004 Troy!!! Still sad when Hector dies and is dragged still don't like Achilles for that but Brad Pitt made me like him a but more. In my opinion Meneleus is a loser more than a coward I mean his wife left him. Agammemnon is just a ass to me he kills his own child for wind just don't like the two of them the rest of thr Greek hero are pretty good though :)
@jamirflyd
14 жыл бұрын
@IIOdInll It's really assumed that Helen kind of ran away with Paris. That fact that Paris was poisoned doesn't make him a coward. And I mean lets be serious this whole war was not just fought because of one woman. This was fought for power and money! Troy was the center of the world during this time. The Greeks wanted a war and Helen was an excuse for it. Besides who really kills their own child just for WIND! Not even the chance of winning but for WIND!
@jamirflyd
14 жыл бұрын
@IIOdInll But in the illiad it's more neutralish I know that's not a word lol but I mean I really think the greeks wanted war. I mean Troy in that time WAS the center of th earth trading hub! I think the greeks wanted that power I mean even different gods were on each side but I have to say Troy was being bullied in my opinion. I mean killing a kid just to get wind come on that's messed up. Should have just given Helen to Troy. Menaleus was a little crying bitch from the start and his evil bro!
@Kerryanah

hmm i guess that would be the realistic reason for it, but i think homer wanted us to know that her beauty was to blame. it was a lesson - too much of a good thing and all. as for priam and hector? she does say that only they were nice to her so maybe they were just nice people - maybe homer wanted them to come across as more heroic - they like her but don't touch her, and since she's a woman, and paris' wife, it's their duty to protect her. oh well, we'll never know for sure
@KartarNighthawk
15 жыл бұрын
Sure. And I was only using the Tudor thing as an example of the kind of pitiful claims people will use when trying to gain a kingdom for themselves. And sure, lots of individuals will have wanted to marry her for her beauty. But as for why Priam let her stay? And why Hector lets her stay, despite thinking she will ruin Troy? It's probably because of the claim. Priam wants the land, and Hector's too patriotic to pass of a chance to expand. At least, that's my take on it.
@KartarNighthawk
15 жыл бұрын
I didn't say he had a legitimate claim. Leaders have made claims on a throne with far less legitimacy (check out Henry VII's bloodline sometime: great-grandson, of a bastard son of a second son of a king if I remember correctly). It would have been enough for Paris to make a serious play for Sparta, especially if he could have the previous marriage annulled. I'd say the marriage of Helen to Deiphobus is proof that the Trojans really wanted that claim.

@jamirflyd they say she was 1) kidnapped 2) ran away 3) tricked by the gods into following paris yes sadly to say it was faught because of one woman, agammemnon although was the chief commander in the book it mentions he respects his peers and they often scold him for being too rash...."troy was the centre of the world at that time..." hey dude go read the book and stop creating ur own theories based on this ridiculous piece of shit tv series...

@jamirflyd so ur saying that it was right for helen to be kidnapped? they were bullied because troy was supporting the fact that to steal was ok ( what you are doing) in that time people faught for honor and valor and how do you know menelus was a weakling? lol did u know that he beat paris and made paris run away from battle thus making helen call paris a coward in the illiad? the illiad speaks the real story fullstop! go read it

@aperantos13 That's what Homer says. On the real, Troy was considered to be Hittitian state, so diferent culture than that of myceanean. Real campain took place about 1200 b.c.. After battle of Kadesh Hittitie empire went into conflict with Myceanean states, for the supremacy over east - west trade routes. That's what that war was for, but this girl is worth fighting ;-)

@IIOdInll I guess maybe but hahahaha that is funny that they lasted so long but I have to say it's really funny that the Greeks are taken over by Troy in the future because the people that escaped Troy later became the Roman empire lol revenge is sweet for Troy well years later mind you hahahaha ^_^
@Kerryanah

hmm i don't know how far tudor claims to the throne would apply to the ancient greek world. and anyway, if we go by the lesson that helen sets, that homer writes, it's that her beauty is the curse, so paris wanted her b/cus she was beautiful as did deiphobus, as did theseus
@Mandinko23
15 жыл бұрын
i don't think because of paris or helen there will be war i think sparta wanted war long before that was just an excuse, if you don't want war they wont sacrifice a little girl, or attack before the king gave them an answer and they won't show up in troy with an army

Well and one thing that everyone forgets is that Helen is the queen of Sparta. Menelaus became king by marrying her, not by birth right. When Paris married her, he effectively claimed Sparta, and that's something that no Greek would ever have let go.

I hate comments like this...you people DO remember a certain Jew, right? Was about to slaughter his only son because the vicious and wrathful Yahweh told him to, right? And was only stopped when an angel pretty much said, "Oh hey! Yahweh was just pulling your leg! We good?" Yet THAT guy gets praised by Jews, Christians and Muslims. But Agamemnon? For trying to help his brother? For not failing his duty as king and leader? And in many versions, Artemis replaces her with a doe! Hypocrites...
@ThePaganSun

This movie was of course, judging by the title, about Helen and Paris and as such, had to paint them in a good light. But Agamemnon's story is full of great sadness and tragedy. His father and uncle HATED each other and the uncle slept with his father's wife and in revenge, Agamemnon's father killed and cooked his brother's children for his brother to eat! As such, Agamemnon swore he'd be nothing like his father and vowed to love and protect his brother. Thus, the war with Troy. :(
