Heliconia latispatha or expanded lobsterclow, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Heliconiaceae family.
This tropical plant can reach up to 3 meters in height.
The leaves are 65-160 cm long and large, entire and petiolate.
The inflorescences are born in pairs, opposite, they are thin bracts in yellow, orange or red,
inside the bracts, are the yellow or yellowish-green flowers.
The fruits, green when immature and contain 1 to 2 seeds,
when ripe they turn purple to dark blue, almost black.
It is commonly known as caliguate, bird of paradise, expanded lobsterclow or platanillo.
Origin:
