Nice video. 2 corrections I'll note. You can take the subway to Jamaica but the Long Island Railroad is faster and more comfortable. The other airport is Farmingdale, not Farmington.

Definitely faster but the long tunnel at grand central makes it too much of a hassle with luggage. Next time I rather go a little early and take the subway

Glad you enjoyed it - I used to fly from the Pan Am building to JFK in the good old days - that was sometimes scary with updraughts from the Skyscrapers but it was also fun - until the inevitable happened ……. So no more helicopters for this old man thanks- one engine and one rotor 🙏🏼nice video Patrick

Oh no, I was at the Heliport last year in NYC browsing those helicopters. It was extremely noisy and windy during take off... Thank you for another awesome short flight report. The transfer from the Modern Aviation to your terminal made the passengers feel exclusive too.

I tried Blade back in May. Excellent experience. I got there extra early to enjoy a leisurely stay in that chic private departure terminal. Yes, it sure feels weird to take off like that (it was my first time on any sort of copter). I saw firsthand how strict they are with baggage limits - however, the ground staff told me that because I had only a small, light knapsack, it allowed them to stretch the rules a bit for the other passengers. One thing to keep in mind is that JFK is undergoing a huge renovation, including re-doing the roadways inside the airport - so don't cut it too close to the stated departure time of your flight!

Great vlog. Back in the day mid 90s New York Helicopters used to fly from the TWA Terminal at JFK to TSS Heliport in Manhattan at West 34 Street, if you flew First or Business or Concorde on BA you got a complimentary transfer. I was upgraded to business once and given the voucher entire to JFKmfor the Helicopter. I think Blade must have done some link ups with Heliair Monaco as they used to do the Nice-Monaco shuttle and that was about €120 for the 7 minute flight.

It’s a nice experience, but I think time wise you have to factor in the 30 minute wait time at the heliport as well. I will try this someday. Otherwise, take LIRR to Jamaica (from either Grand Central or Penn Station) and there you can hop on the AirTrain circling the terminals.

Some of the pax on my scheduled flight got there a LOT closer to the departure time and it wasn't an issue. I got there extra early so I could savor the lounge experience. Luggage limits are indeed strict. However, no shade on LIRR/Airtrain - convenient, safe and inexpensive!

The train is possible but I wouldn’t say it’s more convenient imo. You can show up 5-10 mins before departure and be good to go. It’s just that most people want to spend time lookin around and chillin

I took a helicopter tour of Manhattan back in the early 2000s (before 9/11). It was 50 bucks for 20 minutes. Took it twice, during the day and at night, for the best view. I'm sure now it would be 300-400 per person.

While it is technically 10-20 min journey, getting to the heliport can be quite time consuming in traffic. It's an avenue block walk from the 7 train. For that reason only I stick to transit because from home (uptown) or work (downtown) I don't have the 30 minute overhead of getting to Blade in the first place. That said, I am thinking of using it on our anniversary trip in December. With a heavy jacket of course!

I took the 7 line from GCT, was at Hudson Yards pretty quickly, then a short walk to the Blade terminal.
@mkkm945

@@finalascent About 50-55 mins to JFK Terminal 1 from GCT. To Blade = 13 mins to Hudson yards, 10 min walk, 10 min wait, 10 min copter ride and then being driven to your terminal in JFK. 43 mins not including the drive. Not saying Blade is useless or any such. Just hard to justify maybe 5 mins of savings for $195 vs $7.15.
