What the Bible is telling us is that the life will not be extinguished until everything is burned up. Isn't it interesting that the best known text says, God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten so that whosoever believeth in him should not PERISH but have Everlasting life. Yet these false teachers have it that no one is going to Perish but that everyone is going to have eternal life, some in heaven and other in hell! How bizarre is this fake Christianity?

SCRATCH THIS. > the translation of Sheol and Hades as "hell" when both words obviously mean "the grave." Everyone went to Sheol/Hades when they died, not just the wicked. King David said that God would be with him when he made his bed in Sheol. Other psalmists, the sons of Korah, said that God would redeem their souls from Sheol. Job asked to be hidden from suffering in Sheol. Ezekiel prophesied that all Israel would be resurrected and saved, but Israel himself said that he would be reunited with his son Joseph in Sheol. It is more than obvious that they were speaking of dying and going to the grave, not hell. And the Greek Hades was not "hell" either, because it contained heavenly regions such as the Elysian Fields and the Blessed Isles. The Greek hell was not Hades, but Tartarus. However, by the time the KJV was produced, the English word "hell" (which has connotations of a place that is hidden) had become confused with Sheol/Hades (which were also hidden places, but not places where everyone suffered). gehenna (a place at the bottom of a high ledge at the south end of Jerusalem where garbage and dead bodies were dumped and burned). Tartarus is the place where certain sinful angels are presently kept bound. This specific Greek word is only used once in the New Testament. It has no reference to the final destination of the wicked, or hell. Tartarus is not even the final destination of angels.
@johndalton1043

Correct. I have real issues with this umbrella term called "hell". Hell is defined as Sheol, Tartarus, Gehenna, and Hades. They do not all mean the same thing. For example, Gehenna is the cursed Valley of Hinom. It is a real location. I don't know how he connected the dots to frame Gehenna as the Lake of Fire. Hell does not exist in the Torah. Try talking to someone practicing Judaism about hell. David did not say God would be with him in "hell". That is a clear mistranslation. He's talking about the pit/grave. I really like how Thomas Talbott dissects the position of hell. 1) God is love and wants to reconcile the world to himself. 2) God is sovereign and has absolute power 3) eternal hell/annihilation Calvanism rejects position 1 and hold positions 2 and 3. God is all powerful, but He does not love all of His creation, as most of mankind is destined for annihilation (predeterminism). Arminians reject 2 and hold positions 1 and 3. God loves all, and desires to save all, but man has free will that supercedes God's power, thus God is not all powerful. Christian Universalists reject 3 and hold positions 1 and 2. God loves all, desires to save all, and nothing will deny His promise or desire. If position 3 is correct, then either position 1 or 2 is false. God either can't save all or won't save all. However, this is a real conundrum, as positions 1 and 2 are Orthodox theologies in and of themselves. There are mountains of scripture to support position 1. There are mountains of scripture to support position 2. Position 3 is mostly hyperbole, symbolism, and parables. Conclusion: whatever position 3 is...it cannot be in contrast with either position 1 (love) or 2 (power). I would say position 3 is the LOF and that it is used for purification. This view does not violate or conflict with position 1 or 2. It supports them. I would say the LOF is for correction...and that this correction is permanent/eternal in effect (not duration) before God is all in all.

“Condemned” does not mean “sent to burn forever.” That is an interpretation. In fact, it’s not true that “condemned means condemned,” and someone who can read the Greek New Testament should know that. The Greek word can also be translated as “judged”, and it is translated that way elsewhere. Therefore the way this word is translated (and the baggage that comes with the translated word) depends on the translator. We know from Isaiah that when God’s judgments are oh the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. Also, he is ignoring the fact that the knees of *everyone* will bow to Jesus, to the glory of God. Is it to the glory of God for Him to throw His creation (created in His image) into an endlessly burning furnace? Think about that, and remember that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, and His ways are higher (meaning more merciful - Isaiah 55) than ours.

@@caseyoliver165 look up the real meanings of the Greek words. Translators translated and interpreted according to traditional creeds rather than the true meanings. Study church history and you will see that the idea of endless torment became the predominant view only around the time of Augustine. In the early centuries, there were more Christian schools that believed in universal salvation than believed in annihilation or endless torment. Consider the fact that God never once warned anyone of endless torment in the Old Testament. Of course I don’t want endless torment to be true. Do you? Thank God it is not true. God’s mercy endures forever. His anger lasts but a moment, but the riches of His grace will be unfolding throughout the ages to come. God is love. Love does not torture anyone, much less forever.

When I was small, my mother taught me that salvation was earned by works. She taught me that if I was to be a good person, that I would enter Heaven and that if I were a bad person, that I would enter Hell. I've come to believe this for so long, and I’m glad that I found out about Jesus dying for us. For so long I was lost about whether to worship Jesus or to worship God, but I've come to see that Jesus IS God. Jesus is the son of the Lord, and Jesus IS the Lord. Jesus is my Lord and my savior, and I’m happy to follow in his tracks for he is the one that has saved me. I shall repent from sin and turn to the Lord, for I wish to inherit his kingdom and experience the beauties prepared for me. I wish to reign for 1000 year's with the Lord on Earth, and I wish to be there to see the New Jerusalem fall from the sky by the works of God, where he shall wipe the tears of those who have so and my sin shall be remembered no more. What does this bible verse mean below? Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell”
@larrymcmillanjr.4001
Жыл бұрын
Matthew 10:28 says, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The word "soul" in this context implies "the capacity to live." That is, another human being may be able to take away our life, but we still have the capacity to live again. God can always bring us back to life in the resurrection. So, though we naturally fear people who can cause our physical death, Jesus was giving us the true, eternal perspective. We should not fear man, but God. Why? God has the authority to deny bringing us back to life-destroying the capacity to live ever again. "Hell" in this verse refers to the gehenna garbage heap fire burning in the valley outside of Jerusalem. It's symbolic of what the Bible calls "the lake of fire." If we die "the second death" in the lake of fire, there remains no hope of a resurrection (Revelation 21:8). If we fear-reverence and obey-God, we don't need to fear men.

So, i've looked through Scripture to try to find when God created us, that He *gave us* a soul. So i read in Genesis 2:7, when God formed man, He made him, 'of the dust of the ground...' that's it...nothing else & he/we still wasn't alive, until, "...He breathed into his nostils the breath of life..." and then, man, "...*became* a living soul.' Wouldn't it be prudent for us to hold to what text says from the beginning? How is it that most of us have come to believe that we have a soul? How can we believe that 'souls' are immortal, when the Bible plainly says, '...the soul that sinneth, it shall die.' What does 'die' mean? Pastor, do you realize that you're preaching a doctrine of Satan? God said, that if they/we would die, but you are saying that, we 'shall not surely die...'(Genesis 3:4) Doesn't the Bible teach that the Lake of Fire, will be ON this earth, after the 1000 years? 'But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men....Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?'(2 Peter 3:7, 12) 'And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.'

He does a good job of e planning things. 2 Corinthians 5:8 ESV Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Hebrews 9:27 ESV And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 ESV For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened-not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. ... Philippians 1:23 ESV I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. Luke 23:43 ESV And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

It's far better to _inherit_ the kingdom of God by turning to Jesus before you die. However ... There _will_ be second chances (after death) for salvation: UNTIL -- "I tell you the truth, you will not get out *until* you have paid the last penny." (Matt. 5:26). THE FORGIVABLE SINS -- "Every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not ... either in this age or in the age to come" (Matt. 12:31-32). The wording strongly suggests that all sins except one, including blasphemies against Christ, will be forgiven in the next age if they're not forgiven in this age. (For Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, compare Matt. 12:32 with Eph. 2:7.) BAPTISMS FOR THE DEAD -- In 1 Cor. 15:29, Paul addresses -- and does not condemn (per se) -- the Corinthians' practice of being baptized for the dead. But this practice would have been absurd if one's eternal fate is sealed at death. Also, prayers for the dead were almost universal in the early church. THE DEAD HEAR THE GOSPEL AND LIVE -- "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may *live in the spirit* according to the will of God" (1 Peter 4:6). (Also see Psalm 68:18, Zech. 9:11-12, Matt. 12:29, Eph. 4:8-10.) WHO IS THIRSTY? -- "The Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come'. And let the one who hears say, 'Come'. And let the one who is *thirsty* come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price." (Rev. 22:17) The setting of Rev. 22:17 is the Rev. 21-22 new heaven and new earth, since the "water of life" is also mentioned in Rev. 21:6 & 22:1, and it's the Rev. 21-22 "Bride" who is speaking -- not the "church" or the "lampstands." But who are the thirsty ones? Who else is there? The thirsty ones must be those in the Lake of Fire, located outside the city gates (Rev. 22:14-15), which never close (Rev. 21:25). SODOM RESTORED -- "I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them ... And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before" (Ezek. 16:53,55). In verses 47-55, the pronouns "their" and "they" identify the restored individuals as being those who were destroyed in Gen. 19 because of their abominations (Ezek. 16:50) and for other reasons (Ezek. 16:49). They will first need to be punished and purified in God's symbolic and refining Lake of Fire. DRY BONES LIVE -- "Then he said to me, `Son of man, these bones are the *whole* house of Israel. Behold they say, "Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off."' Therefore prophesy, and say to them, `Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves, O my people... And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, O my people. And I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live'" (Ezek. 37:11-14a). BLINDINGS -- God has either directly caused, or permitted, various groups of people to be blinded to the truth (e.g. Mark 4:10-12, Rom. 11:25, 2 Cor. 4:3-4). This would seem to require an unblinded opportunity in the afterlife. DEAFENING SILENCE -- The first 2/3 of the Bible is completely silent about Hell, and the last 1/3 uses the ambiguous-at-best Greek word _aion_ and its derivatives to describe Hell's duration. This makes no sense if (a) God is love and (b) eternal torment is true. There would have been clear and dire warnings on almost every page. For instance, why did Noah infinitely understate the penalty when he warned his neighbors only of a worldwide flood and not of eternal conscious torment? EVENTUAL UNIVERSAL SALVATION EXPLICITLY TAUGHT -- See John 12:32, 17:2, combination of (John 3:35, 6:37), Rom. 5:18-19, 8:19-21, 11:32,36, 14:11 , *1 Cor. 15:22,28* , Eph. 1:10, Phil. 2:10-11, 3:21, Col. 1:20, 1 Tim. 2:3-6, 4:10, Titus 2:11, 1 Pet. 4:6, 1 John 2:2, 4:14, Rev. 5:13, 15:4, 21:5,24-25, 22:2, combination of (Rev. 22:1,14-15,17a,17c), Psalm 22:27,29, 65:2-3, 145:10a, Isa. 25:6-8, 45:22-25, 57:16, Lam. 3:22,31, Ezek. 16:53,55, Mal. 3:2-3. These verses, and many others like them, imply second chances.

First off, not everyone went to the good side, or the bad side of hell ONLY JEWS had this option. Now please read in your Bible Rev 20:13. NOTE, there is a place called death. And there are souls in it who will be judged by their WORKS. There is nothing about being what you call a "unbeliever" Also it's the saint's who come with Jesus not us. If we are the only saints, who are the saints in the old testament ? It's the Jews. They will come with Christ and then set up the JEWISH kingdom Jer 31:4 The same kingdom that Jesus came to establish, but the Jews would not have Him.

The current world population is approx. 7.5 Billion. Since the resurrection Lord Jesus Christ, 20 Centuries have gone by, so even if we consider 100 Years as 1 generation, that means 20 generations. The Gospel since the resurrection Lord Jesus Christ has been linearly spreading, but still many Billions have lived and died without hearing about the Gospel. And there are hugely inhabited places on Earth where preaching is not allowed (China/Russia and more) or which are still encircled in darkness of ignorance (Remote areas of Africa and more). So this essentially means that God's plan is ultimately saving only a minuscule fragment of human population, and the remaining are souls won by Satan. Is this not a decisive victory for Satan by a huge, huge margin? Is this the fair justice of a just God (Deuteronomy 32:4 - He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.). Is this it, or is there more to this theory? This certainly reveals there a very big gap that needs to be understood and explained to reconcile with Deuteronomy 32:4 alone. What about Jonah 2:2 - And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and You heard my voice.”. What about 1 Peter 4:6 - For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. What about John 5:25 - “Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.", ad John 5:28 - “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice". What about Hebrews 9:27-28 - 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. Revelation 20:15 - And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Here, the Book of Life is not expected to have the names of saved Believers, as this Book has been opened as part of The Great White Throne Judgement, however not to judge the Believers who have already been saved and thus ruled as Priests and Kings with Lord Jesus Christ in His Millennial Kingdom (this set does not need to judged again!), but to judge the Unbelievers as per their works. Revelation 20:12 - And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. Your thoughts please...

Some of Jesus' lesser known teachings on the afterlife … These 2 go together: "The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand." (John 3:35) "All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out" (John 6:37) "I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." (John 12:32) "You [God] have given him [Jesus] authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him [Jesus]." (John 17:2) Jesus also mentions a new mother's "joy that a human being has come into the world" in John 16:21. Why would Jesus say this if most newborns will end up in hell forever?

If there are two divisions of Sheol, one for the righteous and one a place of torment, then that suggests additional, pre-judgement punishment. If that were true, why wouldn't we be warned about it? It's never mentioned. Jesus and other writers warn us continually about punishment on the Day of the Lord (with the Lake of Fire), but never once add that we're also going to be punished in Sheol prior to that.

If our soul is immortal as this man tells us, how does he explain from Ezekial 18:4...."For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son - both alike belong to me. The soul that sins is the one who will die." The bible never tells you in anywhere that your soul is immortal because the soul can die! Wow. One minute in and you have misquoted scripture by adding to it. Revelation 20:13 states The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades ( hell ) delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to their works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Point: The book of life was written before the foundation of the world. Second point. There's the book of life and the Lambs book of life. God bless you all

Yes, Hebrews 9:27 says we will all be judged after we die. But it doesn't rule out purification and salvation following a negative judgment. And, according to three other verses, in the end all knees will bow and all tongues will confess that God/Jesus is Lord (Rom. 14:11, Phil 2:10-11, Isa. 45:22-25). In the two NT verses, the Greek word for "confess," _exomologeomai,_ is also used by Christ to praise His Father in Matthew 11:25 & Luke 10:21. It's never used in any verse to mean forced praise, which is what traditionalists such as Allen Nolan are forced by their eternal conscious torment belief to argue it can mean here. The implications are enormous. "Refined in the Lake of Fire" by The Total Victory of Christ connects the dots (15 minutes).

Up until about 500 A.D., Christian beliefs about hell were reasonable and beautiful. The prevailing view then was that hell (the lake of fire, actually) not only punished but also purified the unrighteous. It was temporary -- each person's finite punishment would fit their finite crimes (sins). (The Greek speaking early church fathers knew that _aionios,_ the Greek word that is mistranslated as "eternal" in our English Bibles, doesn't really mean "eternal.") Once a person's punishment and purification were complete, he or she would go to heaven. Everyone would eventually make it into heaven and be blessed, with heavenly rewards varying by person, based on the lives they led. For supporting verses & quotes, see my two replies. God bless!

Some revealing quotes from leading early church fathers: "Christ saves all men. Some he converts by penalties, others who follow Him of their own will ... that every knee may be bent to Him, of those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth" [Isa. 45:22-23, Rom. 14:11, Phil. 2:10-11, Rev. 5:13] -- *Clement of Alexandria,* _Commentary on 1 John_ "When death shall no longer exist, nor the sting of death, nor any evil at all, then, verily, God will be All in all" [1 Cor. 15:28,55] -- *Origen,* _De Principiis 3:6.3_ "What else does 'until the times of universal restoration' signify to us, if not the aeon to come, in which all beings must receive their perfect restoration?" [Acts 3:21] -- *Eusebius,* leading historian of the early church, _Contra Marcellum __2:4:11_ "A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and become for all men that which rennet is for milk, uniting and drawing us into one." [Col. 1:15-20] -- *Gregory Nazianzus,* _Oration 42_ "Christ captured over again the souls captured by the devil, for that He promised in saying, 'I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Me.'" [John 12:32, 1 Peter 3:19-20, 4:6, Psalm 68:18, Eph. 4:8-10, and maybe Matt. 12:29] -- *Athanasius,* _Expositions on the Psalms, 68.18_ "The peace [coming] from the Lord is coextensive with all time [eternity]. For all things shall be subject to him, and all things shall acknowledge his empire; and when God shall be all in all, those who now excite discords by revolts, having been quite pacified, [all things] shall praise God in peaceful concord." [Psalm 145:10a, 1 Cor. 15:28, Rev. 5:13] -- *Basil,* _Commentary on Isaiah 9:6_ "So the Son of Man came to save that which was lost, i.e., all, for as in Adam all die, so, too, in Christ shall all be made alive." [Luke 19:10, 1 Cor. 15:22] -- *Ambrose,* _Exposition on the Gospel of Luke 15.3_ "For the wicked there are punishments not perpetual, ... but they are to be tormented for a certain brief period, according to the amount of malice in their works. They shall therefore suffer punishment for a short space, but immortal blessedness, having no end, awaits them; ... the penalties to be inflicted for their many and grave crimes are very far surpassed by the magnitude of the mercy to be showed them. The resurrection, therefore, is regarded as a blessing, not only to the good, but also to the evil." [Isa. 57:16], *Diodore,* _De Oecon_ "Some among the wise and learned … have alluded to this in an enigmatic way, by adducing that God is not only just, but also merciful, and that it becomes the One who judges with justice to have sinners suffer in a measure that is proportional to their sins and then make them worthy of blessedness." -- *Theodore,* _Liber Scholiorum, 2:63_ "'All the kings of the earth shall adore him.' Some, indeed, in the present life willingly, but all the rest after the Resurrection; for not yet do we see all things subject to him, but then every knee shall bow to him." [The "kings of the earth" are rebellious unbelievers in Rev. 6:15, 17:2,18, 18:3,9, 19:19,21 ... but check out what happens in Rev. 21:24-27!] -- *Theodoret,* _On Psalm 72:11_ "Death shall come as a visitor to the impious; it will not be perpetual; it will not annihilate them; but will prolong its visit, till the impiety which is in them shall be consumed." [Matt. 5:26] -- *Jerome,* _On Micah 5:8_ "After the complete abolition of sin, praise shall be sung to God; which praise contain (implies) our being incapable of turning to sin ... when every created being shall be harmonized into one choir ... and when, like a cymbal, the reasonable creation, and that which is now severed by sin ... shall pour forth a pleasing strain, due to mutual harmony. Then comes the praise of every spirit for ever abounding with increase unto eternity." [Psalm 150] -- *Gregory of Nyssa,* _On Psalms, Tract 1, ch. 9_ Other church fathers who believed in eventual universal salvation include *Asterius, Bardaisan, Cyril of Alexandria, Didymus the Blind, Dionysius, Ephrem the Syrian, Gennadius, Hilary, John Cassian, John Chrysostom, Marcellus, Maximus the Confessor, Maximus of Turin, Methodius, Paulinus, Proclus, Titus of Basra & Victorinus.* Sources: Thomas Allin, _Christ Triumphant,_ Annotated by Robin Parry edition, chapters 4-5, 1905 & Ilaria Ramelli, _A Larger Hope?, Volume 1: Universal Salvation from Christian Beginnings to Julian of Norwich,_ 2019

But when Jesus ascended, He brought the believers with Him to heaven, where they are with Him today. Since Jesus went up into heaven and we go to where He is..taadaa! No, God, the creator of all things, including you and me, gave us the truth. He did that through the use of the Hebrew/Jewish people. Then, He had them write it all down. That way, we learn the truth, since satan is out here working so hard on keeping as many people blind and on their way to hell as possible. That's why satan created ALL other religions...and why Jesus HATES religion. He even went off on some of the Jewish elders who misused what He taught us for their own gain. All God wants is to have a faithful, loving, and trustful relationship with each one of us. He created us andcwants us to be with Him forever and ever. He gave us knowledge of the past, present, and future. And He gave us instructions on how to live and protect ourselves from the enemy who only wants to destroy us. So, God is real, and He loves you. Talk to Him. Tell Him your fears, frustrations, sadness, happiness, and ask Him your questions. It's truly amazing to see how He answers our questions. I love talking about my Lord.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that when a person dies they return to the dust, the spirit returns to God! And in Ezekiel 18:4,20 he tells us that the soul is not immortal, it dies!Satan is misleading the entire inhabited earth, Revelation 12:9! Soon at Armageddon all those teaching and believing lies about God and His Word will be destroyed! Psalms 92:7; Psalms 37:9-11! So whose word will you believe?
