MESQUITE, Texas - Hellas, a premier sports company based in Austin, Texas, has partnered with Mesquite ISD near the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex to bring a revolutionary shade solution to local high schools, prioritizing the safety and well-being of athletes and coaches. This new initiative aims to shield players and staff from the unforgiving heat and reduce the number of practices canceled due to inclement weather conditions.
This summer will be recorded as one of the hottest in Texas history. While the heat is expected to continue as school sports ramp up, the new pavilion structures at Mesquite ISD have reduced field temperatures by 20-25 degrees, significantly mitigating the risk of heat-related incidents. “Not only does the shade drop the temperatures about 20 degrees,” says Mesquite ISD Athletic Director Kody Groves “But it’s just got a natural wind tunnel effect to it. The flow of air never makes the pavilion feel too hot.”
"This pavilion has been a game-changer," remarks Mesquite Poteet High School’s Head Football Coach Rodney McLain. “We used to lose 20-25 practices a year due to heat, but these pavilions have completely removed that issue.” Poteet High School began fall football practices on July 31st under the shade of a new pavilion.
