From what I can gather adding David Hyde Pierce was a late addition in an attempt to add more star power to the film. I think David Hyde Pierce deserves credit for not taking credit as he was insistent that the performance belonged to Doug Jones so he went uncredited. Hellboy 2 is far more interesting than the first one. The first movie deals with Nazi experiments, undead sorcerers, ancient demons, and dark gods; Hellboy 2 deals with more fantasy-type creatures that also exist in this same world. Having Lovecraftian horrors and occult magic share the same world as more Tolkien-esque beings is a fascinating concept. Having the son of the devil interact with both is an excellent concept. That there was never a Hellboy 3 is the biggest failure of Del Toro’s career.

If there are any fans of the Trollhunters series here, what is your favorite character? Fun Fact: Way back when X Men: Legends was on PS2, DC also made a game with a near identical gameplay format. Ron Pearlman voiced Batman in that game and I must say. At the time, it sounded just as good as Kevin Conroy's Batman. The voice was deep yet still capable of being gentle and emotionally expressive. It's the most major issue with Christian Bale Batman. There was no emotion other than growling.

In more than a few demonic/devil lore styles there's a thing about "true" names. The names of demons that are known are usually something coined by others or adopted by the demons themselves. But their true names is their power AND their weakness. By speaking their true names the demon gains power OR someone else gains power over them. It's a thing that is rearranged for whichever story is being told. There are even some lore suggesting that this also affects God's as well.
