It is very possible that women on average do not respect weak men. They will not stay with a weak man. I am sure many a marriage was saved back then because the husband brought his wife in line. With a divorce rate at 50 percent right now, much of that is due to the emasculation of the man's role in society and his own family.

If Hunter came prepared he should have pulled out his gun and delivered instant justice on George. Put that dog out of his misery. It's the only language these 1% understand. And also respect.

when people are drunk, sometimes violence occurs, and the custom of men not hitting women, bing a part of the code of chivalry, is not respected by lower class people. Bikers are predominantly lower class people, as far as education and behavior is concerned. A woman who stays with aman who beats her is actually the femalecountrpart to a wife beater. in other words, if she was a man she would be a wife beater too. because she is a lowlife like her 'old man'. Ive read alot of biographys while i was in prison. It became interesting when id read a hunter S T biography then i read a sonny berger (founder or pres. Or something of hells angels) biography that both mentioned certain events from different POV's. And the electric acid cool aid test i think had some dealings with HTS.....it just became cool ovce id read so many that the characters all overlapped. There was timoty leary also and jerry garcia and slash.....alot of em begam to overlap
@felipedourado5721
2 жыл бұрын
I've seen some photographs of HST after the beating, he was pretty "smashed", if you will, his face was swollen in a really bad shape and, after all, the so called "fair fight" is not a concept that belongs to so tight-knit groups as mororcycle clubs so, he got four of them against him. Considering that, I don't know if it's easy for a man to simply forgive such stomping and just have a few beers with his "executioners" aftewards acting like nothing had happened. Much more if the man who got the beat thought he was right since the beginning. And, mostly, since from that very moment, it seems to me that any shade of ilusion or enchantment that HST could have about the HA just broke down, as he realised that his principles and theirs would always clash. So, probably the best way to go was just to walk away without looking back again. I also think that the situation that occured to HST is, somehow, similar to what happened to several artists, writers and intelectuals of the sixties. I mean, they belived that bikers (not just Angels) were kind of a "frontline" of the counter culture. It was a understandable mistake to commit back then since bikers were kind of the "ultimate free souls" and hippies shared with them some aesthetic clues, behavioral aspects and tastes. But once that those artists, writers and intelectuals could tell the differences that put the biker world apart of the hippie/counter culture world, each one followed their separed paths. In short, what happened in Altamont was, to the eye of the big public, what happened before, in an other scale, to HST, a clash between social and demographic groups that shared some superficial aspects and the same zeitgeist, but were different on their respectives core values. Hope this help to clarify some key elements of that rich and exciting Era. Peace from Brazil to everyone. ✌

How times change; less than fifty years later and 'beating your girl like a rug' to 'keep her in line' just isn't nearly as funny as it seems to be to this (live)studio audience.. H.S.T seems to be the only sane individual in the room that day.

Indeed. Even the women in the audience are laughing. Many of these people are still alive. Now are we in a position to preach?

I knew a man who felt it improper for another man to stick his nose in his business. As fate would have it I also witnessed this same man beaten, his heels placed on the curb and his opponent stomp and break both of his legs below the knees. Later in hospital this same man asked me why I stood by and did nothing to help him. I told him that karma is a bitch and perhaps now he knew how his old lady felt when he beat her. Men of violence ARE ALL "PUNKS" and mark my words, karma is a bitch.

Oh and I read the book Thompson wrote he SEEMED to be doing what journalists should do. He did say some good things about the Hells Angels he spent time with even though the fight happened at the end of their relationship and he could have just smeared all of them and slanted everything. He only mentioned the fight relatively briefly at the end of the book.

This is sad. The audience laughs at Hunter as “guilt by association, if you associate with these unredeemable types, you deserve whatever you get.” But he probably saved the woman’s life, by distracting away from her beating and it’s probably one of the best things he ever did for anyone, and certainly establishes that he was a real man, and that the angels were cowards, no matter how big a pack they ran in, and that that’s why cowards run in a pack.

You just wonder how things would have went if Hunter had sent 4 kegs,on ice up to their party. Thompson's "Hell's Angels" was the first book I read after High School graduation. The book did make the rounds. I had to look and yes it is in my local library, my favorite Thompson book. I liked his shorter stories a good bit.

I remember looking for this interview, years ago, it's great to finally see it. But I wonder why it hasn't occurred to some of the other commenters that this was pretty much a staged interview. The audience is being told exactly when to laugh, the HA being allowed to bring his bike in, (you can just imagine some hip young broadcaster guy saying how 'edgy & cool' that would be), & HST looking incredibly uncomfortable, because it didn't want to do it that way, if at all. Thanks for showing this clip, I'm definitely subscribing.
