You've produced a fantastic tutorial on how to use the GoPro camera and get great images and sound. Your attention to detail and willingness and patience to package that knowledge into a video is outstanding. I recently made a video about the gear I use but didn't share anything like you did, a reflection of my general lack of patience. I flounder around with the technical details. I shoot 4K video with my Canon G5X but 2.7K with the GoPro. And then I edit and output from Final Cut Pro at 1080p. It's an area that I resist looking at and quickly fall into the "It's good enough" realm. Your video has inspired me to look more carefully at things. Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words. I struggled a bit with how best to communicate some of the information in this video, And also to keep it from being too long. Probably should’ve been three or four separate videos, but I wanted to try and squeeze it all into one video specific to helmet cam setup. Hopefully the chapter markers make it easy enough to navigate. My approach certainly doesn’t optimize for everything but my goal has been to create videos that are “good enough” and require the least amount of hassle from a production and post production standpoint. I watch some of your videos and see that you are often more thoughtful about framing scenes and incorporating multiple camera perspectives, especially segments where you’re speaking to the camera or the viewers. Adding different camera angles and B roll also requires patience! I guess like everything it’s all about compromise and trade-offs. I’m just lucky that I live somewhere with such great backgrounds! 😉

What are you using to edit the audio/video?

I started out using iMovie. It had some frustrating limitations and I upgraded to final cut pro which was expensive but is actually easier to use and more capable. I also purchased an online training course on FCP from Ripple Training that was really excellent and got me up to speed quickly.

@@flatgrindrides I keep going back and forth on if I want to start motovlogging. Do you find it at all a detractor to the calming riding experience or would you say it enhances it because you feel like you are sharing the ride with others?

@@TylerAldrich Both! Just depends on my mood. I find that I have to think about what I’m shooting or want to shoot when I am making a video and that can take away from the ride sometimes. On the flip side it is nice to be able to share the experience with friends and family and others! Can always go for a ride without a camera too.
