I usually cross 2 chains. Then loop 1 chain on each side. Total 4 chains. And depending on how heavy between 2 or 3 straps over top.

I apologize if you didn’t have any good experiences at any of our plants. They can be a real pain getting trucks in and out in a timely manner. Our drivers will even tell you one of the worst places they go to are our own plants. I’m out of the minster plant so hopefully I’ll see you sometime. Keep the videos coming on showing how important it is to take hauling coils so serious because of how dangerous they can be. Stay safe out there driver

If people would simply just take a minute to really think about what they want to do. Before doing it. Have a game plan before n after thought. It really helps out. Instead of just randomly throwing chains. Not thinking about were put them. What about certain angles for applied chain pressure. How many chains. Using WLL. If you are in a hurry hauling coils. That's were you will mess up. Doing what I said takes alot of the danger out of hauling big coils. It will be 2and nature. Like hauling lumber. You take the fear out.

Good video glad to see some guys haul with only straps on their coils. I made it a point to tell them how stupid they were. I load out of steel dynamics all the the time. I drive for precision strip. One thing I’ve learned the hard way is keep your hands away from the chains while binding cause I’ve had the chain roll and pinch my fingers.

Hi Jordan, that's a REALLY good tip! I see your trucks all the time, and have delivered in some of you facilities. Looks like a good place to get on with. Thanks for contributing!

You are right about pinched fingers. I might tell someone how I would do it. And explain why I do it my way. Like I did in above comments. But, never call someone STUPID for simply not knowing. That ain't cool brother.

Lol I’m at the Precision Strip in Kentucky as we speak. I’m stuck here because my 70 hour clock timed out! I do have recap. Currently in a porter-potty just outside the plant where it’s 20 degrees and 10 inside 😂🤣🥶

I can’t believe maverick teaches you to hook to an outer wall of a pocket like that. It’s the weakest hookup you can do. Going around 2 spools is the strongest and creating a basket. Or one spool and around a pocket and create a basket. If that load would happen to shift that hook is gonna rip that single wall of the pocket right off

Thanks for the input Angry Hobo, but I think Maverick has it figured out by now. Not sure you saw it right.

@@CraigRyan No. You can be as arrogant and dismissive as you want but he is absolutely correct. You always loop around spools and/stake pockets and hook back onto the chain if possible. If the chain isn't long enough you gotta do what you can but the chains in this video were plenty long enough. Hooking the strap to the rub rail is some bullshit too, unless you have one of those shitty trailers with no ledge underneath to hook to.

I have never seen a "double" crossover of the chains. Is this taught by Maverick or something you developed yourself?
@CraigRyan

Jay, this is the standard Maverick way. Four chains crossing through the coil if it's heavy, two if it's light. Thanks!

I wouldn't of crossed over 1 sets of chains. If done the way I described earlier. It would have crossed chains in middle and loop chains on both sides for side pressure.

good points Matt. As long as only one chain on each side horseshoes. Thanks for the time to explain your method.

I thought it was illegal to cross chain due to chains rubbing together and making them weak and potentially breaking. I thought C chain was the only way for this type
@CraigRyan

Kam, thoughtful question. I always threw my chains in the manner Maverick taught me to. I figured they have their standards and I would follow them. Maverick specified we were allowed to horseshoe one chain on each side if we had 4 chains. I don't think the chains would grow weak by rubbing if the load is tight. I would recommend you cross chain the first set of chains, then if you want to horseshoe the second set, go ahead.
