Because my computer has been in the shop for the past FOUR DAYS, I had to wait until today, Saturday, to watch this video. And now I find that I'm not the only one in the world who would prefer NOT to do binding! Like you, this is my least favorite thing to do. BUT..... I have actually found someone who LOVES to do the binding! Nope, I'm not telling who she is or where she lives because I need her to have time to do all of MY binding jobs and believe me, I can keep her busy for a long time! I'm still practicing my FMQ. Please hurry back. I already miss you!

Oh Angela what are you doing to me? I have been a paper artists for decades and suddenly decided I needed to age a quilt. I have finished 3 beginning wilt tops and bought my walking food- orders the free motion foot but don't have it yet. I am obcessed with quilting and all the texture. I blame you. Before I found your videos I would have sent the tops away to be quilted. Now I can't stop thinking about how I will quilt all that delicious texture.

THANK YOU ANGELA, you are a fantastic teacher and gifted artisan! You know, it's like we quilters are trying to get into your head when we ask you "how should I quilt my quilt?". You are a unique talented artist first and foremost, and for us to expect you to be able to give us your talent via 'osmosis' seems like wishful thinking. Yet you somehow managed the trick of walking us through your Artistic Process, so that we'll have a few useful mental tools to approach our own works of art with some of your wonderful ideas. I feel like I am learning to paint from Vincent Van Gogh or Rembrandt! I loved your secondary design, but they all look wonderful. Thanks again! ~Diana from Toronto

I’m finally going to finish this two years later!! My own COVID-19 challenge was to finish all my UFO’s (5th quilt that needed piecing is done, except to finish sewing the binding on) and now 2-3 quilts to be quilted, finish being quilted, including this one!!! (I say 2-3 because one has me scratching my head saying “what was I thinking?”....I think I may unsandwich and use that one for a backing). Anyway...I’m going for dot to dot and wishbones...I use this quilt all the time when I get stuck for ideas...I just check out the blocks and refresh my memory!! So it’ll definitely be living in my sewing room when done!

Alright, so I know this video is a year old, but I just found it! Thank you very much for all your help with free motion quilting. Recently, I’ve purchased several of your books and have found them very helpful as well. I purchased a huge chalkboard to practice my “quilting” on before putting it on fabric. It has helped a lot to develop muscle memory and “techniques”. Just wanted to say thank you for all your videos and classes and handouts.

THANK YOU for the downloads. I have a little doll quilt ready to practice - VERY simple set on point design (my first ever) with each square/block screaming for me to fill it and learn something/perfect my imperfections. Want to laugh? had NOT watched too many of your videos and today doing a little "pre printed" square I found stashed away I used for practice, "invented" (or as Elizabeth Zimmerman, the knitting guru I love) said UNVENTED - a border stitch and while not perfect I was actually "proud" of it (for my 3rd try on a quilt) - - watched your video on filling in between feathers and you called it wish bone. ;-)

Angela, I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this series of videos. Did I make a beautiful quilt? NO..Did I even come close?...NO, but I did enjoy the lessons. I have not done Lesson #10...The background but I figured that's what we'd do. SEW, I will do this at my leisure and see what my finished quilt looks like. I didn't do BAD, I just didn't do as well as you :) (so this is my sense of humor). Thank you, I am glad I quilted along with you, can't think of anyone I'd rather do that with. I DO KNOW...I need your rulers. Gonna go see what I can do to purchase them. BTW, I picked an ugly backing for this quilt (I purchased your kit) but when I made the backing I just picked what I had. Maybe I'd love it more if I had used something prettier??? Thank you ever sew much!

ALWAYS love your videos and your Craftsy classes! I need your help, though! Should I buy a Sweet Sixteen sit-down machine or a Handiquilter machine like you are using in this video? I am using a wonderful, but very old, Bernina with a 7-inch by 4 and a quarter-inch area of space for scrunching my quilt through. I have tried a regular long-arm, but I like moving the fabric rather than the machine. I mostly do large, throw-sized quilts, but I have several bed-sized tops that I have stuck away and have never quilted. I would love to have the real estate of the Sweet Sixteen, but I would love all those stitches that I don't have on my 1982-model Bernina. Would the HQ Stitch 710 be so much better in terms of harp/throat space that I wouldn't need the Sweet Sixteen, and could have all those stitches, or would I be happier with sixteen inches of space, and possibly other advantages of the Sweet Sixteen? Is the 710 as solid as the Sweet Sixteen? I want heavy-duty machinery. My Bernina will sew through anything! I almost always use two layers of batting, and I quilt it to death. I would love your advice! Many thanks in advance!

Awesome video! I absolutely loved that introduction, haha! Gotta a question; have you got any tips for this situation; When I am free motion quilting (I am trying it on a scrap piece of fabric cuz it’s my first), I don’t have enough space on my sewing machine surface to move around the fabric as much as I would like to manipulate the quilt sandwich better. Looking at your machine, I see that it’s depth (and also it has a wide area reaching far to the right of the machine to give you more space) is great for moving the quilt sandwich around freely. Do you have any tip that you can share with me? 😊

Set your speed to a slower speed, then you can floor your foot pedal and still not go too fast. That takes one variable out of the comb. of options. Practice, practice, practice. Once you get the movement in your brain, your hand just take off by themselves - you'll see!

I end up thinking how as well and end up meandering around the border and some shadow stitching around shapes and like many think what am I doing? Gone blank. I have so many shapes I can do from Westalee and they just lie there gathering dust. I don't like extensive quilting, like to keep it soft and cuddly.
