I used to have trouble like this and saw a chiropractor regularly. It was so bad, I eventually went to the ER after not being able to walk for a few days without assistance. It was then that I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which went to my pelvic/groin area, causing weakness. It's not the news I wanted to hear, especially because I believed I was doing everything I could to ensure that my bones were healthy and strong. If anyone's going through this, I hope that you take my situation into consideration and get checked by a Dr before it's too late. KZitem is great for self diagnosis when you can't afford to see a Dr or simply afraid to see one, just like I avoided it by going to a chiropractor instead. It is more common than you'd think, so get checked. In my case, it was a blood test that determined it, followed by a biopsy the following morning.

For me, I have found boundless relief (and am now fully upright from bed) from steroid injections bilaterally to my back. The Pain Clinic gave me back a lot of mobility. May not work for everyone (nothing ever does), but personally speaking, this was the very best answer I could find for myself.

Excellent video but what about us short folks? With most chairs, when I sit all the way back, my feet are off the floor and the backs of my knees become really uncomfortable. So I scoot forward to take the pressure off them which leaves my back unsupported. I understand that I can use a footstool in private but most of my time (at least 12 hours a day) is in public. You can't ask for a footstool in a fine dining restaurant or even McDonald's. Most boardroom chairs, vehicle seats and even park benches are at fixed heights.
@More4Life
Жыл бұрын
I understand the struggle. I'm about 5'3". Footstool is definitely the "best" option, but not always practical as you mention. With boardroom chairs, often there is a handle under the seat to lower them. If not, you can put your feet on the spokes that hold the wheels. If you're out most of the time, you could take a lumbar support pillow like this one with you amzn.to/3DuNime. It doesn't raise your feet, but it does essentially bring the seatback forward. Yes, it is a bit of a hassle to carry around, but they're not that incredibly large, so it's a matter of deciding which is the bigger problem... the back pain or the inconvenience of carrying something.

I do not feel good with my back against the back of the chair. Actually, I have a lot of pain that happens in that position. Actually, our chairs are very poorly constructed for sitting because I think that the hips and thighs should be slightly higher than the knees ……also getting up, when there is a table in front of you, does not really allow for that kind of bending forward. I actually learned how to do this kind of rising that you’re teaching and I use it when I can no matter how graceful it looks!

Good video... concise and clearly presented which makes me glad that your channel was randomly recommended on my home page. I am currently quite morbidly obese (hopefully this will change over the next while as I try to lose some weight) but I am curious as to whether the advise in this video would be modified in any way taking my weight (and the fact I carry most of that weight as an abdominal apron) into account. I am a 70 year female with a torn medial meniscus in my left knee from a fall many years ago (I opted not to have surgery and the symptoms are minimal and manageable now) but otherwise have no discernible arthritis or other leg or hip issues. I most definitely have the difficulty you describe, primarily upon standing after an extended period of sitting, so I will practice your advice as shown, unless there is anything else I need know. Thank you for addressing and illustrating this issue so well.

I can't say for certain what's going on in your case. If the "softness" is from swelling, sometimes swelling can drain down your legs (i.e. from your knees) and pool in your feet. If that's the case elevating the legs when sitting may help. If it's more of a numbness in the feet, this video may help: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pp9szqWChXhmkm0 In either event, it would be a good idea to see a healthcare professional about it.

Question - if I sit for an extended period of time with my legs straight in front (ie., not in a chair but on floor or bed or some other horizontal plane), my front thigh muscles become very painful. If I understand correctly, this is some hip flexor pulling them. My question is - how do I address this? I have worked a number of months with a daily walk but also some exercises but I don't see improvement and I wonder whether this pain is the clue to what is actually stopping me from walking more comfortably. Thanks for your videos.
@More4Life

If you're sitting upright with out back support, it very well could be the hip flexors. One thing to try would be leaning against the backrest of the bed, or a wall or couch if sitting on the floor to see if that helps.

Getting dizzy when you first stand up becomes more common as you age, which as you mentioned is due to your heart having to pump blood uphill to your brain. In that case, it is a good idea to stand still for safety reasons until you're no longer dizzy. If you stand still in that approximately 75% upright position and then take a step it should still work the same. So it's the same technique, there's just a pause. Hope that helps.

Hi doc its my ankle thats pain when I get up and feel s tight. What do you think is the problem
@More4Life
Жыл бұрын
There are a lot of possible causes. It really depends on what part of the ankle, if you've injured it in the past, how you've been sitting, etc. It would be a good idea to get it evaluated by someone to help figure out what your particular problem is.

That's how I was when I bent over to tie my shoes . Went to Chiro and was adjusted. My low back where there's two bones you can feel one was lower than the other . Causing pinch in sciatica. Now days after adjustment I'm sore near hip and side/ front thigh is this normal to have soreness days later
@More4Life

In general, you should feel better after getting treatment. Certainly let your chiropractor know about it so that they can modify the treatment approach the next time you see them. Being a little sore in the lower back can happen from time to time, but I'd be a little more concerned if the treatment is making the sciatica / leg symptoms worse.

Where do you feel the prob. with hip flexors? What do you do with the first bent over steps? Hip flex, how? My pain is in the buttocks. A few days on crutches, then ok. It happens often.

You may feel the problem in many places, but the lower back and buttock like yours are one of the most common places. As your questions "What do you do with the first bent over steps?", that's answered within the video content. I can't really give you a better text description than how it's demonstrated in the video. Here's a blog post on the same content if you prefer it in written form and static pictures though. m4lpt.com/i-can-hardly-walk-when-i-first-get-up/

How would you suggest i stand up when i am sitting at a table ?

Ideally scoot or turn the chair away from the table and then just like in the video. Not all situations are ideal though.

What about getting out of a booth In restaurants. You turn side ways to get out
@More4Life

You do turn sideways, but from there the technique is fairly similar. Kind of like turning sideways to get out of a car, which is shown here kzitem.info/news/bejne/rKNpm3WNo2p3foI

What if the cause of the pain is not the hip flexors, but spinal stenosis?
@More4Life
Жыл бұрын
Most of the time the pain IS spinal stenosis and/or degenerative disc disease, which is why this works so well. When you have spinal stenosis and you stand upright right way, it pinches the nerves in your lower back. By rolling your pelvis under like this, you stop that from happening.
