Multiple doors. Don’t want to have to move equipment to get in or out. One big door let’s out more heat than having multiple smaller doors. Put lots of windows. Get lots of bids. check with some other companies maybe find a little local guy like yourself. Morton’s is a big company.

Morton Buildings is a great company. I live 15 minutes East of where I live. Matter of fact I bought my 2019 at the Chevy dealer in Morton. When my uncle was building his house many years ago had a Morton Building put up and lived in it until the house was done. Now my cousin uses it for a heated shed to work on his tractors. It has not been a slow morning for Liz, queen of the one liners!!!!!! You could have a barn raising, instead of LAL in 2021.

Just a thought. Save money on paving. Have the doors on one side near the driveway with its own little porch entrance. To save you money on paving. Then you can have a area big enough to back out of your house garage and bring the trailer/ truck in and back it into the pole barn and leave it hooked up.

Option 1, 40x60 with 16ft side walls, in my opinion. In floor heat is definitely the way to go as a more efficient heat that is much warmer than a standard heater. I do not think that a drive through option would be the best route as you would not be able to utilize all of your space, due to something blocking a door, or by keeping half of the shed open so that you could drive through it. With option one you can back different items in and out and not have them stacked on each other so that you then have to move everything out of the shed to get to the thing in the back. My dad has a 40x60 and a 32x48 shed and I am looking to build my own 48x60 so if you have any questions, we have had a little bit of experience with this in the past. Also, in Minnesota, I have never heard of the first floor square footage rule.

In 2016 my wife & I built a pole barn house. The living quarters were 42x48 (2016 sqft) the garage was 42x36 (1512 sqft). The house had 10 ft ceilings, garage has 16 ft ceiling. We had a 14x12 roll up door & a 10x8 roll up (for the RV) door on the side.

Build it as big as you can afford. I just built a 34x48, which is big as I could go because of zoning restrictions. No where near big enough. 40x60 would be minimum if I were able to. Good luck! Drive thru is a great idea, would you keep your truck hooked up to it ? Plus spec the doors big enough to grow into the widest trailer you can buy this way if you get a 72" mower your new trailer will fit,1 foot on both sides over trailer width. Bathroom and floor drains too

I have a 44'X44' pole barn. Three (3) doors across with the center being 16' high the other two (2) are 10' high. One thing I did not take into consideration is the actual poles that hold the building up. What I mean by this is they get in the way. So take that into consideration when you envision what the finished product should look like.

I was going to build a pole barn but after quite a bit of research instead went with a 40x40x16 commercial metal building. With a 16’ tall metal building I was able to put in a 14’ door so a full size dump truck or large equipment could fit. I don’t currently have either but I didn’t want to limit what I could pull in my shop.

I would look on Morton Buildings social media and get some ideas. With the sidewall height you might want to extend a covered porch on the side you will see from the house to break up the tall sidewalls. Also have your plumber install pex tubes in the concrete for future heat. Make the garage door big enough if you get a big dump truck.👍

---- have the pex pipe put in the floor before you pour the slab. You don't need to hook it up to a boiler or anything but down the road if you want that in-floor heat, (which you will) ..... it's hard to add afterwards. Once you have in floor heat in a pole building, you'll never go back.

Heat the floor it’s worth it. My garage 30x58 14’ doors 2x6 walls second story is an apartment. I Heat it with a split system on propane I’m on my second tank of fuel this winter (300gal tank) and it’s not that cold here in NC. That is keeping the garage at 65 degrees and up stairs at 73 degrees plus hot water. Everything is well insulated also. Put a floor drain in for the melting snow as well. At least put the pipes in the floor so there in if you change your mind later.

I have been getting quotes for a 32x48 pole barn from local builders. Asphalt shingles, vinyl siding, concrete floor, concrete approaches, no electrical or interior finishing. $70k. Materials minus the concrete are about $30k. Lumber is through the roof right now. I built the same barn at my old house 10 years ago for $40k.
@winningRus
3 жыл бұрын
Raw materials for a pole barn in the midwest is $35k for what you're describing. Zoning and permitting will be the most important thing. Building a house is easy, as long as it's zoned for it, you can build it. Building pole barns require proper zoning, the property needs to be allowed to run a landscaping business out of. And the plan commission can require the pole barn to be built a specific way. Before getting too far into this project, I would talk to someone from your city/town's planning and zoning department and get the feel for what they are looking for. For example in my city, business buildings are required to have brick/stone siding up to the height of the widows on the face that face the street. I also had to get conditional use permits to store vehicles and am limited two cement block bins to store mulch and dirt.

My only advice is do it right the first time. Ie: insulate as well as possible, power garage doors, finish the whole thing. All the little things that won’t ever get done once the shop is in use or things that you will regret not doing just because you tried to save a few bucks. Do it all right now to enjoy your free time later.

@flat4314

We have the same rules on the pole building can't be bigger than the footprint of the house. My house was only 1300sqft so I built a 1300sqft attached garage so I could build a 2400sqft pole barn. Then I ended up tearing down the originally house and I ended up with 2 garages
@herblorenz90
3 жыл бұрын
Morton is one of the best pole barn people. The max size is whatever your local code allows, I see you thinking about 16ft high walls, I assume you want a second floor, otherwise, that's a lot of space to heat. Metal pole barns are much cheaper and easier to maintain than stick-built ones. I would go with the closest match to the house colors but a red barn isn't bad either. I would ask the local building guy what is the max you can build and how close to the property line you can be. Also, the height can be restricted also, get the info first then you can figure what you want.

I would ask yourself is this our forever home? If yes then build what you want. The cost of the barn is part of the business expense. The savings of your rent on your storage unit. The time driving to and from the unit (getting up on a Saturday walking to the barn doing a few jobs so nice). It is always cheaper to do it right the first time.

I have had two friends that have built their dream shops and weren’t allowed to run their landscape companies out of them due to zoning. Hopefully you will have better luck. Brain, remember most exterior metal siding is three foot wide by however high you choose. So 60 foot long would take 20 sheets of metal per side. With that in mind you might want to go either 42,45,or 48 foot wide. Most builders don't want to span over 12 foot for your exterior wall pearlings. I would also recommend a leanto type porch.

do it!. After that if you do a decent amount of tree work or know a tree guy, get a wood burning stove. Get at least 1 tall garage door. Then mulch in trails you frequently run around the property. Then if you have the space, use lawn for "testing". If you ever have a bobcat rented, start a pond. Water gardening is lucrative. Also I know someone who lives in his. Get that Agricultural discount on that land. Start growing trees, sod, or keep bees.
