I wrote you I think a little over a month ago about me helping 2 chicks hatch. Your video really helped me understand all of it. One chick didn't make it after 3 days. It couldn't walk. The other one is thriving. In fact my sweet momma silkie took the chick under her wing along with her 10 day old chicks and the rest of the ones I incubated. She is raising 15 chicks ama they are all perfect.

You just gave me the confidence to free up my last chick who was stuck with the membrane and couldn't break free. Did exactly what u did being slow and careful and the shell all came away in pieces. I then opened the rest of the half open 'skin' that had shrunk to the body prob due to getting the other chicks out who were going mad earlier. She stretched and wriggled and with a mighty gasp was FREE! YEY! What a relief. She's now drying out and shouting the place down. I think she was really ready to come out so no veins or guts...so, good news. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this. I wish I would’ve found it sooner!!! I actually found it AFTER I freed a chick who pipped two days ago and made NO PROGRESS other than the zipper and breathing through the air hole. It’s now out and sleeping, but it’s very quiet and seems weak. The membrane was shrink wrapped 😭😭 Out of six eggs in the incubator, only our little Bantam+Ameracauna babies hatched. The first one was noisy and hatched fully in about 4 hours, keeping me up until after 1am watching (my first time). I have no idea what the first hours were like. I’m praying the baby I assisted gets some strength quickly!!!❤

A little at a time is not a bad idea because we need that inner membrane to detach itself from the chick Otherwise it causes massive bleeding. If you notice very little activity, and even labored breathing, it’s time to go in and say heck with it, and just get the chick out.

Oh no I’m so sorry. I’m afraid that sounds like an infection or pretty bad necrotic tissue. I let the umbilical cord dry completely on its own and detach so that it’s closed up and not vulnerable to bacteria. In this situation you can put antibiotic ointment or give oral antibiotics but when they’re small they get weak really quickly 😔
