Cool to see guys helping each other. Get that seal on that drum replaced sooner than later, before you contaminate the new shoes. Hopefully seal surface is good, i had to use a speedi-sleeve on mine. 🤞

Watching you guys hit that wrench with a hammer was like watching a monkey trying to mate with a football. That dude is lucky when he was swinging up on it that it didn't pop off and hit him in the teeth. If you take another wrench, preferably the longest one you have that will fit, take the box end and hook it into the open end of the wrench that is on the bolt, you can double or triple the length of your wrench, like a cheater pipe. Just busting your chops guys. I'm sure y'all already knew this, just didn't think about it in the moment. Thanks for putting out this video.

I use the hammer trick cuz it’s faster than locking the box end into the open end of the second wrench. There’s a place for the double wrench trick but it’s only when there’s not room for the baby sledge. Lots of tricks and everyone has their own favs/style. Thanks for the concerned comment. Rig is still learning this wrenching stuff.

Great to see the community is helping out each other. However I don’t get to why not fixing the seal before filling in gear oil. If it leaks you need to get new shoes again. Also check if it is the seal or an issue with the axle. If the axle has a notch it will never seal again. Did you check the backing plates for ridges? I saw a lot of brake cleaner but no lithium grease applied on the moving parts. You want to add very small amounts to make sure the brakes operate smoothly.

The main reason for not waiting was time. I blame KZitem honestly. This video would have been a fail without a drive at the end. The good news is Rig reports zero leaks. Dodged that bullet! As for lithium grease on the brakes…. I have never done that on any of the rebuilds I’ve done. Never had any issues. This is probably something one guy taught you and now it’s the right way for you. I’ve never heard that, seen that or been told that before. 🤷🏼♂️ I guess it’s one of those “there’s 2 ways to skin a cat” kind of things. I’m not saying your wrong, by the way, I’m sure it’s fine to do it. One last thought on it, I just worry about the grease attracting dust and the causing extra wear on the contact points.

Self-healing seals are always the best ;) If you ever get your hands on a Ford Shop Manual I recommend to read the section about brakes. You will find a sentence about applying a minimum amount of lubricant (high temp) on the contact area between the shoes and the baking plate. Otherwise you will have metal riding on metal, which is never a good thing. If you trust the Ford Shop Manual or a video you saw on KZitem is up to you. Making some own research never hurts ;)

Where did you get the spring and arm kit
@troysgarage

We got ours for this one at "THE Orielly's". You'll need to measure your brake shoes so you get the right springs kit for your application. There are at least 2 different sizes for these shoes: 12x3.5" and like 12x2.5". Orielly guys/gals can assist in getting the right ones for you!

@@hockeysockeys5323 has your rear end been swapped? I’d take pictures of it and take those in with you. There’s 3 different options for it. If you are on Instagram send me a DM with your pics and measurements of the brake shoes and I can try to help.
