Two Class 43s in East Midland Trains livery with a rake of Virgin Trains East Coast coaches heads to Grantham before a Class 170 in Cross Country Trains livery heads to Peterborough, having come from Stamford. Then from the other side, a Class 91 with coaches and DVT in Virgin Trains East Coast livery head to Peterborough also. This crossing is one of the 3 biggest in the UK with 6 tracks along with Maxey and Exeter. Gloucester is 4th place at 5 tracks. The crossing is controlled by the signalbox which is in the middle of the two lines. This crossing can get busy as when I was there 8 trains passed in one closure. There was a huge queue. It shows how frequent the trains are when the two cyclists come. They had just reached the other side with me when the crossing closed again. One of the wig-wag posts had ants crawling all over it, and the barrier next to it didn't close properly. Bloody ants, jamming the mechanism. Probably.
