In this video, I take you on a spiritual and adventurous journey to Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand. We began our trip from Punjab, passing through Chandigarh and Rishikesh, and finally reaching Govind Ghat. Our adventure includes an 18 km trek from Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara.
On the first day, we arrived at Govind Dam Gurudwara, which is 9 km from Govind Ghat. The next day, we started our trek early at 5 AM to reach Hemkund Sahib. The trek is stunning, surrounded by nature, and we were accompanied by many other pilgrims on this sacred path.
Visiting Hemkund Sahib was a dream come true for me. Upon reaching, the first thing I did was take a shower in the holy kund at Hemkund Sahib and then visited the Gurudwara. We also had langar there. Despite the harsh weather conditions, we started our descent around 7 PM, feeling blessed and enriched by the positive energy of this holy place.
Join me on this incredible journey, filled with beautiful landscapes, spiritual experiences, and unforgettable memories.
Origins in Sikh Scriptures: The origins of Hemkund Sahib are linked to the Dasam Granth, a sacred text written by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. In this text, Guru Gobind Singh narrates his past life as a meditating yogi on the banks of a lake surrounded by seven snow-capped peaks.
Rediscovery and Construction: The location of Hemkund Sahib was rediscovered in the early 20th century by a Sikh scholar, Sant Sohan Singh, and later by Bhai Vir Singh, a Sikh poet and scholar. Construction of the present-day Gurudwara began in the 1930s, spearheaded by Sikh devotees and the Indian Army.
Architectural Features: Hemkund Sahib is situated at an altitude of around 4,632 meters (15,197 feet) and is surrounded by seven mountain peaks. The Gurudwara is known for its distinctive pentagonal structure, built using stones and concrete to withstand the harsh weather conditions. In this video, I take you on a spiritual and adventurous journey to Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand.
