Ronny! Long time no see,bro! I HIGHLY recommend this system! It's definitely one of the most comfortable sleeps you can have in the out of doors. The fact that it fits in your pack and doubles as a camp chair are just a bonus!

I have the Expedition Zip model with the larger hex tarp. It also came with the snakeskins, but I find it doesn't compress as well in the pouch so I no longer use the snakeskins. One of my subs from NFLD just sent me his "slightly used" Hennessy SuperShelter. I'll be trying it out this weekend on a fishing trip to Nova Scotia. Hoping to do some kayaking for the first time too!

Muskrat Jim u and me both looking forward to the kayaking. I'll be in Algonquin this week regardless of weather. I'm use to a tent and this thing and a kayak were meant for each other. I'm still mastering the packing of one I'm a rookie there. The super shelter eh. Gona have to check that out as of right now a slightly expensive space blanket I was just going to throw in the bottom under a sleeping bag.

Great review and how to!! I'm curious as I have never slept in a hammock and our climates are the same, do you use anything for insulation underneath you in colder temps? Like a therm-a-rest?
@sasktactical

Hey Josh! Yes, I normally do use a thermarest even when it is warmer... I think that it is called the Basecamp model. I find that it also provides a bit of stiffness, and makes for a more comfortable sleep! I have never taken it winter camping, but I know that some people do, but they generally use an underquilt that wraps underneath the hammock.

Thanks for your intelligent criticism! I went to your channel to learn from your video making expertise.... seems as though you haven't decided to share your skill with the world yet! Quelle surprise!

Ok I was worried for a second the weather keeps sucking and I thought I would need to buy the tarp but it came with it I have the same explorer bag. It's got two straps a tarp and the hammock. I just need to buy the super shelter separate? It's still in the bag every time I get time it rains so i was just gonna give myself lots of time and set up while camping for first time. Thanks for all the advice I bought some caribeners and synch rings. :) Don't forget the drip lines boys and girls if she rains......

Great vid! Thanks. Can you help me understand how the 2 ring system works where you've secured the HH to the tree straps? I'm not a climber, but you mention that it makes it easier and doesn't require any knots as you can tighten it by just pulling the chord through the 2 rings. Thanks, Dom.

It looks like your channel has gone inactive, but I'll give it a try anyway... What is your winter set up like? Can you hack it in that thing without a lot of modifications or does it need to be modified for you to sleep in it in the cold?

Thanks for watching, Odd! I've had it just over a year, and I absolutely LOVE it. I too was looking at the DD hammocks, but went with the HH and am glad I did. The Hennessey Zip model can also be used as a bivy, has an integrated bug net, allows for a flatter lay, and is more waterproof (or so I'm told), and quicker to set up (especially with the snakeskins). The DD is slightly less expensive though.

Maybe they changed their packaging but currently my new explorer deluxe says deluxe on the bag, not just explorer.

Good review. I have the HED and love it. I added the super shelter and now it's a four season system. Just place a space blanket on top of the under pad and your good to go. My was the bottom entry but I have since got the zipper installed. The repel rings also make it easy to hang and adjust. Great hammock. Thanks for the review. Enjoy & be safe !

FYI According to the HH website the rainfly should have its own ridge line so maybe that's why those clips broke?

Interesting. I did not see this info anywhere on their website, and if you watch the video of Tom Henessey setting up the hammock, he uses the existing ridgeline just like me.

sasktactical I just received a Hennessy Explorer like you, and when it arrived, I noticed multiple clips broken (they look like yours at 8:15).. any news on this? or are the clips supposed to be like that?

On the HH website there is an additional video for foul weather setup and it is in this video in which a separate ridge line is used. Will attach link when I can. Have a great day!
