I have the 45 Long Colt in the Henry X. I just tested it and it was Awesome at 20 to 25 Yards. I tried from 65 Yards and I need to move the sight way down to get hits at that range. So I think our findings were very similar with the Henry. I did really like it and I plan to keep it long term. Keep up the good work on your Channel Sir. Much Respect, Beretta Sr.

I was lucky enough to come across a Model X in .357. The guy in front of me looking at it had to go home and ask his wife first so I had a big fight with mine. No regrets. Henry sells an accessory pic rail for the scope mounting holes but t's actually designed for a scope mount to sit above the Fiber Optic sights so you can have the best of both worlds. Iron sights for under 100 yards and put a scope on it for distance out to 350-375 with some good ammo. There are plenty of after market accessories for the forward grip to do whatever you want to it.

Alaskan Ballistics i’ve never hunted bears, but it seems like if one was charging you at close range the scope would get in the way, i’ve tried to shoot deer at five and 6 yards with the scope and you can’t tell where you’re aiming on the deer all you see is hair, I think the flashlight is an excellent idea, I seen uncle Jim put a red dot on his lever action that look pretty good it has shake awake so that if you grab a gun to read that will automatically come on, for now you could put a taller front sight that would fix your elevation problem, i’m a big fan of peep sights, mainly because I haven’t seen anything faster to get on target and you know how deer are here in Alabama they just jump up out of nowhere and they only stand for a second and they’re gone. So I’ve never been to Alaska I know batteries don’t last good when it’s cold, and you’ve got to have something very rugged in that can handle all kinds of weather, you would think something like the Williams WGRS-336 Guide Receiver Peep Sight Set Marlin Lever Actions with Fire Sight Front Sight Aluminum Black, would work on that.

Having a gunsmith drilling and taping holes for a weaver mount or pic rail for a forward mount scope don't take much that's basic plus you can order a loop from marlin and drop it in. But Henry dropped ball on not setting gun up with a long top mount pic rail. With the pic rail you can add an adjustable flip up iron rear sight

I picked up an X in 45 colt a week ago. Really liking the gun so far. Really seems to like 300gr xtp mag's at 1500fps. Can't wait to load up some heavier (335gr) lead bullets. I loaded a dummy round to 1.680 and it cycled through the action, something the older brass guns wouldn't do. I had a similar experience with sights. First time out got it dialed at 25yd, all I can do at the house. Next time out it was high and slightly left. I plan to put a cloverleaf peep from Ranger Point on it as soon as possible. The X in 45-70 is next on my wish list.

Interesting that as Marlin (Remington) is finally coming around in the sight department. Henry is now trying to catch up with the competition. Now you can get those crooked sights on a Henry! The magnum I didn't care because I wanted to scope it anyway, but the 22lr I contacted henry about the issue not expecting much, but they were the most awesome customer support I've ever dealt with. They sent me a taller front sight that took care of the problem. Find a proper American maybe by 4 or by 5 red dot. No gun draws as fast on target (once you have the feel for her with a certain ammo) best to take full advantage. You're extremely well versed in all this man, but ya gotta keep us involved I know lol. Curious tho man what do you prefer? Eyes good enough for actual skill iron sights, ret dots (have none myself but friends do) or a proper durable large scope to see in lower light and wider field of view? I'm actually interested to hear you opinion. Believe I've made up my mind on a X4 red dot for mine as my eyes are shit for distance now

@@AlaskanBallistics someday I hope to check them out in person. I prefer simplicity over fancy whether it's my truck or my rifle. Hate the idea of batteries dying in a red dot, proper scope never gives up short of dropping it real hard but any man worth his salt will immediately pick up and baby the rifle before any scope haha

That is a sweet rifle, I am jealous. I think you can sort out the sights by drifting the dovetail on the rear sight to the right. Try some of that hot "Grizzly" 420 grain ammo you had tested before. Hotter ammo will actually shoot to a lower point of aim. Drift that rear sight slightly, if you are not comfortable doing that take it to a gunsmith it should not cost much to have it done. Load some hot ammo and try it again and you might be right in the ball park.

Well love the Henry x. Marlin just put out their Dark series also but their still freedom group so quality is little off. Dad got one last Christmas from my brother in the marlin with the classic guid gun with large loop. I say like to see Henry with the 325gr lever revolution ammo. And some 405 gr hard cast with a optic. Think a small vortex or nikon will be way to go.

Skinner sights, Ranger Point Precision loop and other goodies they offer will make your Marlin into an amazing gun for less than you think. It would be definitely less than another gun, but maybe, not as much fun. Check Skinner for your Henry. You might need a taller front sight.

For the sights, i would lean heavily toward a good receiver mounted peep or ghost ring sight. I love peeps on military rifles, so i lean yhat direction. Lyman and Williams both make good peeps. I have used both on Marlin lever guns (30-30 and 357 mag respectively). Skinner, i believe XS, and New England Custom Gun Works make ghost rings. I am sure XS will bring out a rail soon if you want to wait for it. The other option of course is a red dot or a compa t low power scope. The Millett DMR reticle 1-4x is a good one. I akso had great success with a Weaver V3 1-3x on the Marlin 357. Wide field of view on 1x and 1.5x especially, and a huge exit pupil, so your eye naturally lines up quickly, with a full field of view. A medium sized brake would probably be nice, and a little bit better recoil pad. Lights are up to you. I don't know much about the current crop of lights. One suggestion on ammo- test 1 or 2 of the full power 405 gr JFN loads, like Buffalo Bore, Hornady, Garrett, or whoever else. That is representative of what most people will use, especially for bear defense or moose. I think someone makes an in between level 405 gr as well. The other good one to test is the Hornady FTX (350 gr i think?), which seems to be widely used for many purposes. Looks like yoy are off to a good start. Looking forward to seeing how the project goes. I am disappointed in the factory sights, but the rear sight is easily remedied (the front will probably be fine).
