Shout out to whoever chose this camera angle. Most of the time, it's an angle that a teacher would use to demonstrate to their student. 👏👏👏

@@justusforviolin2719 I've played this before and now I'm playing Ysaye's second sonata. The sonata is way harder but you can hear what influenced Kreisler in his compositions as you said. Especially in phrases or polyphonic parts. Also important to note that Ysaye actually knew Kreisler, and as he was writing pieces dedicated to violin players (based on their character and things like playstyle/overall technique) like Thibaud or Enesco, he also wrote a piece for him - Ysaye Sonata No. 4. Definetely worth a listen.

@@luxio6765 I played the Obsession sonata (my first real exposure to Ysaye outside of his string crossing arpeggio exercise) for my college senior recital 15ish?! years ago, I don't know why I never noticed the connection til now...there is even some Ysaye in Kreislers famous Beethoven concerto cadenzas 1st and 3rd mvts! They clearly seem to have influenced each other

Magnificent playing. Szerying was very much a 'fiddler's fiddler' - never 'quite' the household name as with the Heifetzes and Menuhins, but IMO much, much more musical than either. Gorgeous Guarneri in use here also :-). Thanks for the upload.

not many violinists are capable of that - but maestro Szeryng did not drink before this video instead he gave us a master class in how to play the violin. I hope you understand me other wise I will be happy to tell in Español.

@@uliwidmaier5192 Szeryng was one of the few to regularly play both Strad and Guarneri - most players fall into one of the two camps (Heifetz - Guarneri; Milstein - Strad, etc). Always a gamble booking a ticket for Szeryng as one never knew which fiddle he'd be playing!
@paulcaswell2813

Depends on the repertoire. Concerto-wise, Strad for Mozart and Beethoven; Guarneri for the likes of Bruch and Brahms... David (who helped Mendelssohn with his concerto) played a 1742 del Gesù (later owned by Heifetz), so the Guarneri would have been apt here too.

No modern players can hold a candle to the generation represented by Szeryng here: the list is unbelievable. Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh, Stern, Szeryng himself, Kogan, Ricci... We will never hear their likes again - almost all of todays top fiddlers are too much like 'peas out of pods' (Rachlin excluded).
Tò be honest Szeryng Is a Master and a Lord. Mintz in that recording with Deutsche Grammphone Is really perfect not a single note out of tune and a incredible sound with the Guadagnini. Here Maestro Szeryng Is Simply Amazing and his rich tone Is a gift for all musicians. Comparing, and i hate this, Mintz was perfect but not charming.
