In this video we will be looking at Liver Tumors or Liver Cancers. There are a few types of cancers, such as hepatocelullar carcinoma.
HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOME (CANCER)
Caused by Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus which blocks p53. It is also associated with aflatoxins, cirrosis, the metabolic disorders such as hemachromatosis, Wilson's and alpha1 anti-trypsin disease, and finally tyrosinemia is associated with hepatocelullar carcinoma as well.
CLINICAL SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS of HEPATOCELULLAR CARCINOMA.
There will be a mass in the liver as the tumor or cancer gets larger. There is elevated Alpha-Fetoprotein. You can also get paraneoplastic syndromes such as hypercalcemia, hypoglycemia or polycythemia.
Death of hepatocellular carcinoma develops through cachexia, GI bleed, liver failure or tumor rupture. Any of these things can lead to death. It is metastasized through hematogenous routes.
HEPATIC ADENOMA
This reversible and is associated with Steroid or OCP. As soon as they get off the drug the hepatic adenoma will go away.
CAVERNOUS HEMANGIOMA
Benign tumor where the vessels form this cavernous space which looks like cancer, but it is not. You can't biopsy because rupture can cause severe bleeding.
ANGIOSARCOMA
Cancer of the endothelial cells. It is associated with vinyl chloride, arsenic, Thorotrast. So casued by different types of poison. Once it metastasizes the prognosis is less than one year
