My first impressions when learning to drive trucks were (1) a lot of tree-trimming doesn't take large vehicles into account, and (2) a lot of ordinary motorists have no idea how long it would take you to stop when they cut in and out in front of you.

Hard to get cab corn on an old massy 850. She did good for first time. I never had problems with tractors on the farm. But every time I got in a manual vehicle I’d stall it. Now I daily drive a manual. Semi first time I stalled out the old Mack.

The no 1 thing I teach drivers/operators is get to know how the seat works and get it right, so you will not have the extra struggle when driving/operating, especially learning to drive/operate. So adjust the seat for a few parameters. 1, Peddle push length, 2/. Height to have clear view around you. and 3/. Length to press farthest item you need to press or adjust when driving, plus feel the room of the stick shift to make sure you are not in the way of it movements.. I do all this before I start any vehicle I drive.. If you have issues, you know before hand, instead of finding out when driving, therefore can plan accordingly.. Repeat everything above after you adjust the seat. A comfortable seat means easier to operate and less pains (both emotional and physical pain) after a long period of time. If you are struggling within a short time, find a safe place to stop (put vehicle in safe idle mode) and readjust seat. Practice makes perfect. Always gets in the habit to plan the journey for obstacles.

For the cab corn issue maybe you could somehow fasten a plastic tote or something up there and then when it gets loaded go up with a clean shop vac and suck it out and either put it in a separate container so you can do what you said like buy pop or whatever for the shop with what would’ve been lost or just suck it if top with the shop vac with no box or anything just right off the cab!! Well that’s my 2 cents on the deal!!

Your down shifting is interesting. I was always taught to give it more throttle to pop it out and then let off and then get back into it to get it in the lower gear! Never use the clutch to down shift
@mannfamilyfarms381
Жыл бұрын
Yeah 2 ways to do it! I see a lot of people do it the way I do. I get the truck down to 1000-1200 rpm, slightly push in clutch just enough to get out of gear then rev up and float the lower gear. For me I feel I have more control as I’m reducing speed. I don’t like revving up while I’m gear to slow down, feels odd to me. Always multiple ways to do it, just whatever you’re comfortable with.

Curious why you aren't floatin the downshift as well? No different then floating the up shift. Let off accelerator, Preload the shifter, lightly tap the accelerator and she pops right out of gear. Much easier and quicker then using the clutch imo.. I know everyone has there own driving styles but the only time i use the clutch is Start/stops or if its Sticking in a gear / isn't fully going into gear then ill tap the clutch quickly.

I’ve been driving a lot lately and I tried that quite a bit one day. I didn’t mind it but sometimes it gets jumpy trying to get it out of gear. By just slightly pushing the clutch in to get it out I feel I have total control. Just me though
