Hey coach, thanks for the inspirational video. I was in an accident a little over a year ago. I have multiple bulging discs causing me lots of pain and unfortunately there’s nothing my surgeon can do about it. He said I can still do anything I want physically but it causes me great amounts of pain. It’s my dream to play tennis professionally but I’ve never had the money for a coach or anything like that and now my back is giving me trouble. I’m trying my best to get back into training consistently but of course it’s gonna take a bit more time. I’m glad to see you have a student with such an incredible story of recovery. Thank you for everything you do for the community and stay you Mourtatoglou!!

A lot players think, stiff is control. No. It's the swing path and the racket upon impact that make the shot. Control the swing path and racket not the muscles.

Patrick, I love these videos! I take the advice and try to share with my twin 12 years olds so please keep them coming. They are entertaining and so insightful. On a related topic when I heard you talk about left and right eye dominance my mind went straight to golf. When I swing best I can track the club face to the target before hitting but this vision comes and goes. It would be interesting to hear to talk with a golf coach about this subject.

Coach Patrick, in golf, we say, listen for the sound of “swish’. You will easily convey acceleration that way. I hope you can add this to your English vocabulary. Other tennis pros ask their students to throw the racket but it’s not as effective than just listening for the swish because throwing the racket involves losing control.

Releasing the racquet is the byproduct of good rotation and a soft grip but overemphasis on "snapping the wrist" leads to poor mechanics. Jack Sock and Tiafoe just two examples.

If I am right handed and left eye dominant then when I hit my forehand, I have to look at the ball, correct? Since there are more chances of missing and the opposite is true for my backhand, correct?
@ildarb813

You have to look at the ball anyway 😁 He means that you better hit staying in a more closed position on your forehand and more open position on a backhand.

Creo que cuando Patrick indica wue no trate de hit hard lo correcto podría ser no tratar de concientemente controlar el golpe(creo que es el tema que retiene a muchos de conseguir su verdadero potencial....

Annnnd this is why Holger Rune will never be in the same breath with the top young guns for now…his couch does stuff like this for KZitem $$$. Love Holger Rune and also love this channel. But don’t like his couch selection. For a world top ten men’s tennis player like Rune should be, his coach should be about him and only him, period. Or he’ll always lag behind the top guys in big tournaments.
