Wow not heard this in decades and what a sound, I still have my original 1979 and was going to look it out and post Rotation, in fact, I didn't know there was a MFSL pressing.. and as always another masterful edit, there is a very good reason you have 165K subs Rui.

Thank you very much, kind sir. Actually, not long ago I uploaded another video from this album, which includes Rotation and Rise. A fine album. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k5-Yx6lteoCbkpg MFSL is currently under severe flack, because they finally confessed that they've been doing their reissues with digital copies made from original masters, at least since 2015. Lots of people, which are way more obsessed 😋than me about the purity of the analogue sound, are absolutely pissed with this news. As for me, I'm not happy, but it's not the end of the world either. This reissue is from 1982, so digital remasters were not a thing at the time, although, this album was originally recorded in digital format with a 3M digital tape machine. (no computers involved, at the time)

@@MrVinylObsessive I cant believe the can of worms this has opened up, it seems such a big thing to many and yet is the sound quality of these digital copies are they worth arguing over, as at the end of the day that sound that really matters it's not like they have inferior sound, next thing those purists will be jumping off the rooftops with a vinyl clamped in between their "Butt-cheeks", so what if there was an MOFI vinyl of Donald Fagen's The Night Fly today, it was digitally recorded, edited and mastered wasn't an issue then so should not be an issue, at least not a real one....
@MrVinylObsessive

@@The70s80scollection Well, it's more about the deception than it is about the sound quality. It will sound ridiculous if someone says that suddenly the MFSL reissues don't sound good anymore, just because they found out they were digitally made. Instead, people are focusing on the deceptive way how MFSL make people believe the reissues were made like they use to in the old days. It's about the lack of transparency, and also about the premium price they ask for their discs, in the assumption that we are buying "pure" analogue records, which have higher production costs than those made from digital files. But realistically, the old original magnetic tapes that the labels have in their vaults, are getting very, very old and brittle, and there's no way they gonna let MFSL or any other brand to put their hands on it to make new analogue reissues. It's a destructive process, which was more or less ok when the tape was new, but it's not ok when the tape has 50 + years. So, they let MFSL make ONE digital copy, and that's it! After that, it's all digital, my friend. 😁 But... it's still copied from the original master tape, not from a third generation crappy tape. It's a very high quality copy. They never explicitly said that their reissues were CUT from the original master tapes, but by omission, they let people think they were still doing it the same way as before, and hence, the deception. Some people are shocked, and they spoke like they lost the will to live because of this, and... well, that's an exaggeration, isn't it? 😄

@@MrVinylObsessive 100% its in the deception, I also have one of the original MFSL releases (Gino Vannelli) and the top red banner is "Original Master Recording", and to be honest that's what I still thought was the case (for the most), there is an explanation leaflet of the transfer process inside the sleave, I don't have any of the new ones but assumed there was still that level of transfer information and I guess this is where it all goes pear-shaped, and again 100% Rui as you say the lack of transparency, in the exact detail of the process, I'm sure they are doing the best they can and you can't argue with the sound, however, one of the main reason's I don't have many of the newer MOFI pressings is the cost. Those who spent 1000's, will feel robbed even though they have a "very good" product just not the perfect one they thought they had.. and you'll never guess who has the 40th-anniversary MOFI release of Thriller on pre-order, the most I've ever spent on a new pressing. The level of discussions on this topic on some of the well-known YT channels posts is just off the scale, it's not like there is an impending asteroid about to wipe us all out, as I said I feel that everyone still has a good product and have probably blissfully enjoyed it...until now....😁 I already have my original 1982 Thriller on cassette and various later releases on CD and a later vinyl (gift) etc, should try and find my old cassette and remind myself how poor some cassettes could be from back then.

@@MrVinylObsessive Being a client of MFSL, I can say that I care very little about the analog or digital origin of the editions. The only thing that interests me is the final product and what I hear on my system and that is irreproachably high quality. The problem for audiophiles is that despite spending thousands of dollars on their analog gear, it doesn't reveal fidelity for the price they paid. MFSL, despite putting "Original master recording" on their sleeves is not a denial or a lie. Perhaps there is a bias due to omission of some data. I agree with you, old analog tapes don't support practically any manipulation anymore. A slap in the face for the "purist fanatics", many of these recordings do not exceed 15k, that is, a correctly digitized copy will not cut anything.

Olá Rui: Once again, Herp Alpert is back. This 1979 album was also caught up in disco fever. This theme was aired in my country on a radio show. It was called "Notas de Jazz"(Jazz Notes). This is a fine album with a slight flavor from the Disco era. Some songs are originals from Herb Alpert and his nephew, like "Rise" and "Rotation", that you watched in the other video, while some other tunes like this one are covers. There are several versions of this "Street Life" out there made by other artists, and several have vocals included, but this one is perhaps my favorite. I will visit your channel soon.

@@MrVinylObsessive Olá Rui: From my early childhood, I heard so many songs and instrumentals, many of which I could not identify.😟 Those pieces in your video, actually, are reminiscent of the TV and Radio show "Lost in Time."
