I was randomly cheking Herbie Hancock's you tube videos while waiting for his long-awaited New Zealand concert in October. I just tuned this live concert and gues who I did find out in it? GIGI --my fellow Ethiopian world-class singer and poet who recorded her masterpieces with afew legendary musicians like Herbie. Kebero--the first song played on this video is one of her masterpieces.

There aren't enough jazz musicians experimenting with electronic music. Most of them are content to play variations of the same old shit the masters played 60 years ago. Cats like Herbie not only have the chops to outplay most anyone but the creativity to see outside the box when it comes to jazz.

There aren't any jazz musicians experimenting with jazz at all. No more Chick, Miles, Jeff, Lyle,, Weather Report, Mahavishnu, Stevie Ray, Yellowjackets, Stanley and Pat have gone in a new direction.

There are a lot actually. They’re just not being played on your radio stations. Jazz was mainstream and America’s popular music back in the day. Now, the ones experimenting and using electronics don’t get as much shine these days. You have to search for those artists. Check out Kamasi Washington’s latest work. And Terri Lyne Carrington’s Social Science album (the drummer in this video) Start there.

One of my favorite's is Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man.no really being serious Future2Future Concept of electronics and jazz improv and traditional jazz with Wallace roney and Terry Lynn Carrington some of the Best jazz artist's in the world, but Herbie can handle such an ensemble of free jazz the world has never known. 😎🥳✨💯💥😛🎂🎹😘

It’s electronic/jazz fusion.. I know the other guy said fusion, and that’s not wrong, but a lot of times people think of just straight fusion as jazz rock/rock jazz.. Herbie did some of that in his career, is maybe best known for his funk fusion (so more funk with jazz, than rock with jazz) which differed a lot between the 70s stuff and 80s… and of course he’s known for straight jazz. But this period was really a blend of the “electronica” and ambient of the late 90s/early 2000s, with the jazz he’s always killed at since 1960… ✌️
