HERE & GONE | Wrestling's Short Lived Gimmicks
Wrestling has a long and storied history of lengthy gimmicks which have stood the test of time. In the modern era alone in fact, the likes of John Cena’s patriotic babyface star, Randy Orton’s slimy heel, and Brock Lesnar’s Hulk on steroids characters have already seen them find success across three different decades. And if you want to go even further back than that, you can find any number of lengthy gimmicks such as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, or Gorgeous George, each of which gave the person behind them years worth of success. But what happens when a gimmick doesn’t quite have that staying power, either because it wasn’t quite working, or because something better came along for the performer? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today. So, join us as we journey into the world of the lost and the forgotten in Brief Encounters: Wrestling’s Short-Lived Gimmicks.
