Please let me know if you are having the same lift gate issue! When I bought the car with 127K miles, it was working inconsistently and I took it to the Lexus service when it was around 142K. If you have a high mileage RX too, then you might have the same issue. It isn't super expensive but definitely something to keep in mind.

There’s a utube video , shows you how to remove and install another lift gate motor. It’s really easy. Just utube it. I have a 08 and I never use that function. Lol. I worked at L and toyota 14 yrs

I am 99% sure that you can replace that motor yourself and keep that money in your pocket. Just buy a new motor and search for instructions.

You need to check out a video on youtube on how to fix a new tailgate motor on a gen3 RX350 done by a guy named Shane Salisbury.

They should have known the gas shocks were not the problem and they should not have charged you for them. The fact that you could raise the lift gate by hand, and it stay up, shows the gas shocks are working. You did good Process of Elimination by trying all options (button in glove box, button by steering wheel, button on key FOB and the down button after you raised it by hand). If the gas shocks were bad and motor was good, it would have closed when you pressed the button to close it. Well done on the video production.

I would imagine that the parts would be around $200 and the replacement would not be too challenging of a job to take on. Its worth thinking about. This is not rebuilding an engine, it is simply swapping out a part. Good luck. I appreciate hearing your experiences with the RX 350, as I am interested myself (under 150,000 kms) in decent condition. Cheers.

Did you mean the power motor to open the tailgate was only $725 to be fixed by Lexus? I thought it would be a lot more expensive than that! I also get this intermittent issue with my 2010 RX

Yeap! That’s labor and parts for the liftgate motor. I’m sure they would replace the struts when they replace it and that would be extra. Some people on the channel suggested DIY videos about it but I don’t know if I could do it.

@@enesthemenace06 Well, for sure I couldn’t do that on my own. But it seems cheaper than I was expecting. Initially I thought it was my Liftgate struts, but my independent mechanic as usual said that they didn’t think there was anything wrong with the struts. Well, one day soon I’ll have to get an estimate from my Lexus dealer in Tampa, Florida. Will be interesting to see what they charge compared to where you live!😁

Wondering how much did you pay for the car? Is that miles or KM?
@enesthemenace06

I paid $14,000 when it was 127,000 miles back in September 2020. As of November 2022, I have 152,000 miles and did not spend anything significant to maintain it. Routine oil changes. I just replaced all the brake pads and surfaced the discs which cost me around $750 at the local Lexus dealer and that's it.

I was looking at a Top 5 Problems with the 3rd Gen RX350 video on YT, it says the following: 3. Liftgate Not Working Symptoms of Liftgate Problems When you press the key fob, the liftgate may open on command but it may not close, or it may lock but won’t open until the button on the liftgate is pressed Causes of Liftgate Problems on the 2010 to 2015 Lexus RX 350 Lexus says “initialization” is needed, which means the RX 350 needs to be reprogrammed. This problem may happen after disconnecting the battery, and it can cause electrical problems with parts other than the liftgate, like the window or sunroof. How to Fix Liftgate Problems Search online and find out how to reprogram it. All you will need to do is follow the instructions in the driver’s seat with the key. **

Thanks for the comment! Yeah I trust in the Lexus dealer in the sense that the issue comes from the liftgate motor. But hopefully yours is just struts for now which shouldn’t be too bad to replace. Maybe you could DIY? I’m sure Amazon has those for cheaper.

@@enesthemenace06 Don’t automatically assume Lexus reprogrammed your trunk door. My son worked for Lexus and my husband was a car salesman for 30 years. The dealer repair shop can really rip you off. He saved my niece $250 for a window repair that she was going to have fixed at a Toyota dealership he worked at. Directed her to a friend who is a mechanic instead. The same friend is where I get my Lexus serviced at. He told me, a dealership he worked at gave him oil filters for free. When they changed the oil, they never changed the filters.

dude seriously? this is how lost you are! you went there (dealership) for a power lift gate issue they quote you not one ? but two things that are not even close to what you came in for! if i understood you correctly! you paid for an initial work that did not fix the problem, then they told you could be something else? ((( U GOT TAKEN! ))) sorry no easy way to put it.... hint even though the Owner's manual is thicker than a bible most if not all the issues? can be fixed if you take the time to read it. mine had the same problem! " you were warm on the glove compartment button? for if the left one stops working? you need to reset the lock computer mechanism of the SUV by using the home control screen you click on 'Vehicle" then navigate to 'lock control /reset and instead of pushing/activating the left back gate button one uses the right/glove compartment one , by turning on and off the system while engine is running! (now there is a possibility that the control arms have ceased ! but there is a way to find out!. push the lift gate up and down as quickly as you can! without completely closing it if you don't hear that swish sound? that could be the problem and must be replaced which you can also do by yourself just make sure its Toyota comparable ,if you don't have the owners manual you can order one online they are cheap to buy will save you lots of headaches !

@@enesthemenace06 it's a scam when you go in there and you tell them what THE ISSUES ARE?.. (for they know how easy some fixes really are? you did well, not falling for it!) again if you got your owners manual when you bought your own vehicle go through it that's how i fixed mine and the motor wasn't really the issue in mine but there is a way for you to know get yourself a light pen relay tester connect it to ground ' if you know how to remove the cover there are two simple wires that come and go from it test the red cable by touching it with the tip of the pen (engine on of course) if it lights up there is current getting to it! here is a trick gently hit the casing with something solid a few times sometimes this motors get over heated even when not in use and get stuck! a couple of smacks on it usually releases the core. try that if you are still trying to resolve your problem.. PS sorry i misunderstood ! be well.
