Looking forward to 2025, but thanks to Erik explaining this in earlier videos I am prepared for 2024 since one of my medications will blow through the deductible, initial and coverage gap in just the first 3 months. Already have the money prepared for those first sky high costs and then will enjoy the 0% catastrophic for the rest of the year.

I VERY nearly got disqualified from buying Part D- by disenrolling from my Medicare Advantage Plan effective Dec 31. I bought Medicare Supplement before Dec7 to be effective January 1, 2024. Having been told by the Supplement sales rep that I could enroll in part D after Dec 7, I let it go to the following Monday. WELL- when I called the RX sales rep- he informed me that I could NOT buy Part D effective Jan 1, as I would not be under Medicare Advantage on January 1, and the switch HAD to be directly from advantage to D. What a trapdoor that is! Luckily, my county was under Federal Emergency declaration, so I was able to sign up after all. It is simply criminal how complicated this is! Reminds me of the tax code.

It is unfortunate how complicated it is. Your situation is a good case for why we recommend working with a good agent. An agent can help avoid those problems and navigate the coordination better than working with the individual insurance companies. Thank you for sharing your experience!

We hope premiums don't skyrocket to offset. If premiums can stay manageable, it's a great benefit!

What if I keep advantage care plan after my trial period is over, is it hard to switch back to original Medicare after three or so years? Also, will it cost more after my trial period is over if I switch back to original Medicare later on?

You can always go back to original Medicare without underwriting or penalty. The Supplements are a different story, though.

$545 Deductible is very high. My husband's (union) work plan drug deductible was $100 while he was on their plan under age 65. On Jan. 1, 2024 he goes on Medicare so this is going to be a big shock. (his one name brand medication was costing him $40 a month after the $100 deductible. Medicare part D is not affordable.

Thanks Erik. I start Medicare in April. Ialready have my supplement plan set up. The broker said to wait until early March for my Part D plan. Do you think that that is enough time to have it effective for April 1?

Yes, should have plenty of time. If you have A and B in place, everything else can move fast. It's A and B that take the most time to get in place. Hope that helps! Thank you Tom!

@@Theretirementnerds Yes, I've been receiving SS benefits so I got my Medicare Card automatically in early December. I think I'm all set. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
