I saw a lot of Delta 88s growing up in the 1970s and 1980s. I would often see them at churches since a lot of church goers often have one. It was a great large family car.

When I graduated vocational School in 2010 in Eastern Kentucky there was a guy named Chris and he had just bought a 1983 Delta 88 and I didn't get to ride in it with him but a lot of us guys at the center which is like a vocational school where you live there and learn a trade, we all got to check out the back seats and some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat and they were those pillow top type. Chris had driven his new purchase from Louisville to paintsville Kentucky which is a few hour drive from each other.

I had a teacher in 8th grade who had one of those Oldsmobile 88's with the Chevy engine, and he talked about why it was such a big deal to some people. He took the money rather than having the engine swapped out, since it ran better than any of his previous Oldsmobiles. By the time I was in college, many people started referring to "OldsmoBuicks" due to how the various divisions were obviously rebadging the same cars.

Danny from Full House drove a red 1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible early in the series. He actually had two, the first one got smacked by another car while parked and sank down into the ocean (and was towed out) on Danny’s 30th birthday. Jesse and Joey bought him an identical one from a classic car dealership, and Danny discovered it too and called that dealership, and they were all unaware that they were bidding against each other on it, though Jesse and Joey ended up buying it below the highest bid in the end.

A lot of people may not know that it had Ike Turner of Tina Turner Fame her ex-husband before she met him he was in the group Jackie Branson who was the leader an like was the guitar player, if you find a copy of rocket 88 on the Chess records label on shellac 78 RPM not the 45 copy you have some money right there at least 60 to 100 or so dollars if not more depending on the condition of the disc probably almost $200 if it's up near perfect condition.

I have been a fan of these 87+ V6 cars with the 3.8 Buick engine for years. I had originally an 87 Bonneville, then an 89, but discovered the LSS Oldsmobile in the supercharged platform. All my friends had squeaky G-body Montes and such RWD models, but I had the car somebodies Grandpa bought and needed the S/C option. Comfy, understated interior (contrast to a 90's era Bonneville with 26 vents or whatever lol) and a torquey, reliable and efficient V6 240hp and 280 tq. I'm down to my last 3.8, a 97 Park Ave Ultra. Sad face.

As what they always say, there's a special feel in an Oldsmobile. I remember that the Eighty-Eight was being phased out in the late '90s. The Aurora should've saved Olds, but Olds as a brand was already going downhill to the point in 2000, GM announced phasing the brand out.
