I hate it when people think these cars are crap compared to Mercedes, Bmw and Audi as they are far from the Hyundai's (Genesis) of the early 2000's. These cars are very nice and much cheaper to buy then your regular luxury brand which probably has more issues in the long run. the review was not bad but try to be more unbiased we all know you are a Mercedes fanboy at heart but I'll bet this G90 will out last an S class in the long run cost much less to maintain and won't loose as much on the resale market an S class/5 series/A8 loose about 40% first year. The same thing happens to the newer Kia's people hate on them thinking they are the same crap sold in the 2000's but remember Mercedes Bmw and Audi were crap during those years also. Those Kia Stingers are very nice and have top of the line interiors for 1/2 the price as the rivals and they are fully loaded as the competition for the same price you get a base car. Now a days people worry to much about the logo's then what they actually get when they spend on the cars it's the social media way of things the more you LOOK like you have money the more "friends" / "followers" you get it's narcissist in many ways. Ps-The G90's rear looks like a Bentley continental.
@Scitation

You've explained the position perfectly. If you can't afford a luxury performance vehicle and care about it's 7 year maintenance cost or resale value, this car is perfect. To suggest it's equally nice is either misinformed or disingenuous.

Excellent review. I own a 2018 G90. It’s an absolutely fantastic automobile. I’ve owned MB S-class and BMW 7-Series, and while the G90 isn’t as refined as those, it’s not far behind considering the price tag. I was blown away by it when I test drove it, and I still love driving the G90. It’s well controlled, has plenty of power (for my use), comfortable, and quiet. And also throw in to the mix that the price includes 3-years of regular services, a 5-year comprehensive warranty, and a valet service that will come and pickup your car and leave you another G90 loaner while the car is being serviced. It’s become my go-to car for driving around.......and my other car is a Bentley Continental GT.

I always enjoy your reviews Mike, your experience as a salesman helps you really show the VALUE of the car/vehicle. Hyundai over the last say 5 years have really upped the quality to price/value of their vehicles. Genesis as you spoke about has the same philosophy. You get an S Class Light for half the price or even more. You might have to get a Jeeves to drive you around in the G90 for a week. lol .... that is a rather expensive option in that car, but for those that either have kids or the $$$ for a driver that is pretty awesome option to have. Since Hyundai and Kia are sister brands they use the same 3.3L Twin Turbo in the Kia Stinger GT (which would be another car for you to review that is a drivers car and one that I suggested for you before you went the correct route and customized your awesome truck). Many reviewers of that car say "For a Kia", for those that have Badge envy or can't look past the brand and enjoy the car for what it is. Genesis knows their niche as you stated they are not trying to out German the Germans, but provide really nice quality for the price. Good job Mike, I look forward to your next review and anything else you have in store.

I don't like that park button setup. That has the potential to cause damage if a driver shifts to the full forward shifter position and gets out of the car. If you want to park you leave it in drive and just push park? Or do you have to move the shifter to N first? Its a major change to the way automatic floor shifters have worked since the beginning of time for them which was what, like 1946? The drivers of these cars are mostly older and trying to confuse older drivers is not a good idea.

I have had the horrible experience of finding out that your repair on you’re BMW (my case a 740i) is going to be over $1,200 ... again. The same applies to Mercedes-Benz (esp. the S-class). Both Hyundai and Genisis have one of the Best the Warranties in the Business. And not just for the first 3 years. And if it every lets you down... it’s a couple of hundred... not thousands. These cars are not cheap to fix when the warranty expires. The tech features cost a fortune. Just a single headlight assembly comes in between $2k-$3k. So when that pretty LED headlight fails (which is a common problem on these and the similar Kia K900), you will have a hefty repair bill. These cars are a bargain used (including the Hyundai Equus which the G90 used to be called), easily in the $30k range, but fixing them 6+ years down the road will put you in the poor house.

Hyundai and Genesis will become market leaders in time. Their time span from cheap cars to these great cars took them shorter amount of time then what the Japanese did.

Even the Hyundai's have that option of music when you turn the vehicle off. My friends find it annoying I keep it on, but I think it's great they implement something like that in one of their base model vehicles

I have no interest in the G90 but watched the video because it is you Mike. Great, thorough and professional presentation with some humour thrown in too. Well done as always.

How quickly most folks forget about the 70's and 80's when Hondas,Toyotas and Subarus were hitting the American roads. Most weren't that much better than earlier Hyundaes. Crude, cheaply built little rust buckets, a lot of them. I worked on many back in the day as a body and paint tech. Look at those brands now. They own the American roads. Hyundae, Kia and now Genesis are right on their back bumpers for quality. I personally think that Hyundae has more talented design teams...great looking cars lately. Exciting company! Great early fall weather here in Pittsburgh...finally.

I had a 92' Coup Deville with a 4.9 V8 that averaged 16 mpg in city and 25 mpg highway. At 25 years old, it hit those numbers as long as you were maintaining the engine and cooling system properly. I would have expected over 2 decades of advancements in technology to create an 8 cylinder with better gas mileage. Alas... Beautiful piece of kit though.

Great review, very informative and balanced. As a tech guy who can remember both Toyotas and then Hyundais with wind up windows, I give Hyundai props. From steel/shipping they branched off/started small and grew themselves a very impressive global automotive arm today. No easy feat, people have always had choices used and new. Looking around worldwide, with everything from state of the art rally to commercial to consumer vehicles of all kinds spanning every powertrain technology there is, these guys at Hyundai/Kia are every bit as talented and serious as other Korean tech giants like Samsung (with many of the bugs that come with hi tech lol). Love the 2019 Santa Fe, and their full size SUV plans for 2021.

I'm probably the target audience for the G90. I'm looking at luxury vehicles, but I'm just not willing to drop $120k on a car. I can't bring myself to do it. I've lived in houses that aren't worth $120k. $75k is still a whole heap of money, but I'd have an easier time talking myself into it.

Great review . . .Agreed on the interior switch gear plastic etc. have owned 4 original was 2009 Hyundai 3.8, 2013 Equus, 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8, and now a 2018 G80 Ultimate with 5.0. (Bought all at Wright Automotive, by the way).I drove drove and LOVED the upgraded interior in G90, but could not see the almost 18k price difference. While I can nitpick a few things (too much plastic in the interior), for the money I think Genesis vehicles are a GREAT value. Love the warranty and ZERO cost service except for tires. Subscribed. . . .nice work, Mike

The Genesis G90 is an excellent luxury class auto, however the infant Genesis brand still lacks the value of other brands in the segment. Their dedicated dealer network is barely off the ground. So the buying experience and servicing will be much like owning a Veloster. Also, the car lacks distinctive styling; it has a generic look about it, copying bits here and there from other, more recognizable brands. Instead of this, if you want full size luxury but can't afford the freight, go for a low mileage CPO Merc or Lexus. Keep working on it, Genesis.
