This is a terrific car. If you currently have an older car that needs constant repairs, or your car died, or you don't have a car, then this is MORE than a 'terrific' car, it's a lifesaver. To those who comment that it's a "piece of junk", perhaps you've never experienced hardship in your life. A reliable, safe, affordable car is a lifesaver.

p m I've lived in hardship for most of my adult life. Throughout I've always owned a vehicle that was less than decade old, and it was always on a need basis while making sure I don't go upside down on the value of the car. One time I've had an engine on a brand new Suzuki SX4 blow up on me, even though I had excellent maintenance on it, and from that point on, I will only buy a car that I want, not what I need. If I'm going to spend the money on an expensive asset, I won't be frugal with it because in the end I'll have to spend a lot out of pocket if something happens regardless. Currently own a 2014 Ram 1500 bighorn and I'm loving all the bells and whistles, but especially the hemi. Tl;dr : I now only get what I want while staying under budget. My driving experience is now very satisfying, and because I'm under budget, I can afford whatever bullshit life wants to throw at me.

jowildcat40 - It's not possible to discern exactly what the point of your comment is. Half is odd, the rest is incoherent babble. Never the less, if every car you've ever owned has "always" been less than a decade old, you haven't known hardship. At best, perhaps occasional inconvenience.

Furthermore, these days, just getting there and back safely nails it for me. I am looking for something for my ladyfriend. She is cheap and frugal, if you will, just like me. p m. The transmission will need constant work and the car will always be in the shop and you will always be wondering when it will go out again. I know what I'm talking about - 2 transmission replacements and 6 other times in the shop for transmission issues in the first two and a half years with under 20,000 miles on it. All under warranty--cost to them to do repairs on what had been a brand new car? Over $9,000. They eventually bought it back from me when I pointed out that the warranty had another seven and a half years to run, and at the rate it was going this vehicle was going to cost them $36,000 for the transmission alone over the next seven and a half years. RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM FIESTAS.

To be honest, bluetooth is more important to me than having an armrest, power windows or a fancy transmission. Handsfree calling and having the phone automatically hook up to the car stereo is a safety thing too since you don't have to take your eyes off the road. A five speed is just right for this kind of car and 120 HP is more than enough, should do 0-60 in around 9 seconds or less. I like how ford doesn't skimp on the airbags and AC on the base model.

It's a simple car for the daily commute to work, nothing should breake easy and cheap maintance ... you get in this car early, go on the highway fire it up to 130 mph, exit at you destination and the next day the same. You don't need a window in an A/C-car and you don't need it above 90 mph and you don't need an armrest and other silly options. The 1.6 liter engine is the big version (the 1.0 120 mph Version will be enough for the daily commute).

Yeah, it's a great deal until you have to service your 7-8 year old luxury car. That $99 special to fix your brakes at Midas is not for you. Come back when you have a couple grand in your pocket. Want new tires? No, those $150 tires won't fit. You need special tires at $1100 a piece, not including installation. Everything is way more expensive when you have to perform routine maintenance on a luxury car. Been there and done that. There is a reason people lease luxury cars for 3 years and get a new one at the end. Upkeep on one of those things will kill you.

It looks like terrific value to me. Of course the snobs will find plenty of faults, but for average people who might prefer say, to own their own house or have a better diet, something like this will make it a lot more possible than an ego stroking machine. On the other hand, if you like to have vehicles during their most trouble free stage, then regular upgrades to new models is also more realistic. It says a lot about fat arse culture and bad driving habits when people moan about manual windows and lack of armrests.

That's a very good perspective, but I find certified pre-owned better. It depends on the manufacturer, but you usually transfer the warranty and save enough to get a much nicer car. For example a 2014 Fusion with every option and 40K miles goes for the same as this stripped Fiesta.

Hi America, welcome to what the rest of the developed world would call a normal car. You guys expect all the added features which are really not necessary for day to day driving. For example, blind spot detection sensors, really guys, just look over your shoulder and use your eyes, its far cheaper and you'll get +1 for road awareness. Whilst I agree the car is pretty minimalist (no electric windows for example), for a new car, it would make an affordable daily runner to and from work or for my wife to get about in. 1.2 to 2L flat 4 with a manual gearbox is what most other countries drive on, so lets not berate it too much. Finally, to some owning their car outright quicker with smaller monthly payments is more important than owning some over priced vehicle, that you'll take years to pay off.

Love the fact they make plain and simple cars. It scares me how complicated and bottlenecking electronics can be in cars these days. I'm a modern person obviously, but cars cost loads to begin with. leaving the complex mumbojumbo out almost always makes for a more reliable car and thus a cheaper ride.

The America car industry does not have the engineering skill or ability to engineer and package a modern small car that works and produce it at a reasonable price. The lighting is very easy on the eyes while at the same time pretty bright to see your drinks and stuff in the floorboards. So anyone looking to buy this car, I'd recommend getting the SE, because I'm in love with it 😊 also the blindspot mirrors are very helpful.

My first new car I bought was a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer ES in Octane blue. I got it on sale for $15,995 but it stickered for $18,200. It is still my daily driver. 2.0 liter 147 hp automatic cvt transmission. Trunk space is amazing. Power door locks/mirrors/windows with drivers one touch up/down. It also has a full display with tire pressure monitoring/outside temperature display/trip computer/miles till empty/mpg and fuel economy display. It came with 16 inch wheels with hubcaps (which I have since upgraded to aftermarket 17" wheels). Also came with CD player with MP3 (connection through aux port) and includes the radio data display i.e. shows the artist and song title. The interior is pretty basic and mostly plastic but it does have radio controls on the steering wheel. I'm gotten her to 105k miles with no issues and she's still running strong. I highly recommend these cars for people who want a decent car but can't afford all the bells and whistles. The Lancers are highly underrated in my opinion.

Automatic is for most people more easy to drive. You simply put the vehicle in DRIVE and there you go! No need to play with the clutch or change gears yourself. Driving manual in traffic requires you to keep using the clutch and be good at it too as you don't want to STALL your vehicle in the middle of the road! Also, Automatic transmission in general is more fuel efficient AND allows for not only a smoother guaranteed transmission but also allows for a possibly faster car (true for all sports-orientated cars). An automatic is simply CONVENIENT. Sure, it gets boring from time to time but many see their vehicle as a tool. A tool has to simply work efficiently and effortlessly. The user will take utmost care of their tool as usual as it expects it to work.

We paid about this much for a pretty specced-out half year old Smart Forfour in Germany a while ago. It only has 71hp, but it weighs far less than the Fiesta, is about half a meter shorter (while still seating four adults comfortably), has a six-speed double clutch gearbox (!) - actually the smallest of its kind - an excellent infotainment system with GPS, bluetooth, USB, etc. that puts cars three times as expensive to shame, AC, heated seats, a foldable roof (like the Fiat 500), the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced in any car, cruise control, alloy wheels, parking sensors, an arm rest and lovely direct steering. There's of course a full set of airbags. I probably forgot a few features. It's packed. I think the only features missing are leather seats, flappy paddles and a rev meter. What surprised me was how good the materials in the interior are. Not luxury by any means, but there are soft-touch surfaces and even some fabric covering the dashboard. Since it's rear-engined and rear-wheel-drive, some may think that it's sporty, like a miniature Porsche, but it's not. Not because it doesn't pull, it actually does and up to 60kph/40mph, it's quicker than you'd expect and it's perfectly fine on the German Autobahn, but because the ESC is very strict, cannot be deactivated and the thin, small tires mean that it doesn't have a lot of grip. However, in the city, it shines. Since there is no engine in the front taking up space, wheels can turn at a ridiculous angle, making this the four seater with the smallest turning radius in the world. This is a tiny car, so you can park anywhere, get into every gap. The steering is absolutely perfect and there is even a surprising amount of feedback. This Smart is also ridiculously economical. The little three-banger achieves 4.2l/100km or 56mpg and if you're careful, you can get even better gas mileage. I won't pretend it's the perfect car. It's designed for tight cities and small Autobahn journeys in between, as a cheap, but stylish and comfortable commuter car. This is probably not the car I would choose in the land of huge SUVs and bumpy interstates, but in Autobahn-country, it's good. I know for a fact that the Fiesta handles better and is certainly superior as an entry-level driver's car with its tight gearbox and refined suspension, but if you're only looking for a tiny comfortable commuter that has the same attitude to gas as a vegan does to meat, there are much worse cars to pick.

What you've labeled as a "hub cap," is, in Fiestaworld, a deluxe, monochromatic, wheelie cover. Government cars often have hub caps. But if they extend to the inner rim...wheel cover. I like your subtle, sardonic style in this; made me watch a number of others. The Past Zero miles ones were enlightening, as was the Let's Try Park at 60 MPH. I remember on a fishing trip all of us sweating O Miles in a gas guzzling Expedition. Probably went -2 arriving at the station, all for naught. And back in the '70s, in a Pinto crossing a highway, a friend's mom threw it in Park in panic when it stalled as a semi was barreling toward us. Parking-pall-smashing chatter & clatter. Trucker changed lanes (or I wouldn't be writing this, at least not with my hands). Good to know they've compensated for that wee indiscretion. Keep up the entertaining works. I've been promoting them.

I recently purchased a 2017 Focus SE Sedan with the 1.0L 3 cylinder ecoboost engine, 6F15 torque converter automatic transmission (thankfully not that horrible dual clutch unit), ecoboost appearance package and the upgraded 17" alloys for $14,365. MSRP was $21,535. Got a smoking deal on this car!

The guys on Top Gear always loved the Fiesta as a great little affordable car you could toss around and have fun.

I just rented a Ford Fiesta and drove it from LA to Fresno to San Francisco, and back. I found it to be a very good car. I was able to pass cars when ever I needed. I averaged 38 mpg. And it was comfortable on the highway and around town. Btw, I drove it hard doing burnouts and carving around corners. No issues except a thief broke the front passenger window and stole my messenger bag.

Refreshing video. I'm looking for a commuter car and this is the perfect appliance, it's even available in refrigerator white.

I own a 2012 Fiesta. Basically the identical car except my stereo display is red, not blue. I have the SEL, which has some extra features, all of which still work. The two things that I really enjoy are cruise control and heated seats. After you've had both, you won't go back. I do have the 5 speed, and at 70 its doing about 3250rpm. I get, on average about 41-42 mpg, mixed. I don't know how you'd get 26, you'd have to drive it like Mario Andretti. Mine has the mpg trip computer and its within 1 mpg of pump, so its accurate. At 40mph, in 5th gear, it's getting about 50mpg. Insane. At the time it was rated number 1 but US news and world report, and everyone, including Consumer Reports, talked about how fun it is to drive. The SE and Titanium come with wider tires and aluminum rims. They really grab the road and that little car is like a rallycar to drive. In fact, the Fiesta was born in Europe as a rally car. Our version has the racing components removed but the performance is still there. The ST version is insane. Well worth the money. With the 5 speed its very reliable. The horrible reliability ratings are only for the auto, but in a small car, who wants an auto anyway? Shift that thing and have some fun! My dad's been driving standards all his life and he drove it once and said he's never felt a standard that was as smooth as mine. So don't be afraid of it!

I just bought a 2012 Fiesta SE 4 door sedan and I’m more than happy with it, the car does what I need it to, get me around. It’s plenty fast enough, I’ve hit 110 mph in it on the highway and didn’t feel like I was doing over 60. Mine has all power options and I only paid $4500 for it with 83,000 miles on it. I don’t need a Beemer or a benz . It’s a great little car for cheap and has great gas mileage.

I have a 2015 Fiesta S hatchback with the 5 speed manual. Paid less than 12k brand new, cheap insurance, great gas mileage, tiny payment, looks stylish enough (the hatchback looks much better than the sedan). It's a great commuter car for the city and is plenty comfortable for longer trips, I regularly drive over 100 miles for my work and I have no complaints. the bluetooth (standard) is a great feature for music, GPS, hands free phone calls. I love it. The resale value isn't great, but I'll drive it for 5 or 6 years and still get a decent trade. If you are not 6'2" the back seat is ok, and the hatch back has far more space than you would think. Can't beat it for the price.

Ford has always offered a bare bones deal. My first new car was a Mercury Lynx,a Ford Escort with a different name badge only. The thing was plane jane, manual shift,no radio,no keyless entry,no power windows,no power locks,no air conditioning, nothing. I loved that car. I was 21 years old and was damn proud of that car. I moved up to a Mustang, and then a Truck, all Ford. They were reliable they were not without their issues but I was a Ford Man for years. I stopped buying new cars after I realized it was better letting someone else fix all the new car issues, then buy it two years old as a used car trade in,low miles and have been a happy camper. I drive a different brand now,but for a new person buying their first basic new car,get that.

I bought a new 2013 Fiesta S Hatchback several years ago. It was a complete no frills purchase with hand cranked windows and the venerable 1.6 liter Duratec (just make the ecoboost standard for god's sake) but I have to tell you, I teared up a little when I traded it in. The car was an absolute gas to drive, especially on winding roads. I did make some minor upgrades like alloy wheels and a new stereo but to be honest it really didn't need them. The thing stuck to the road like glue. If you're going to buy one, get the manual. So much fun.

I bought my 2017 in 2017 with 28k miles on it. Most reliable car I’ve ever had! It’s got 107k on it and it’ll probably need a clutch at some point, but overall it’s been super reliable.

Rode in this same car the other day when I got an uber and I rode in the back and I am 6 ft. I was impressed. It was quieter then the Honda's I have owned and it was comfortable. I have a soft spot for this segment with a manual transmission and think there are fun to drive and this car had highway chops. If I didn't own my mustang and wanted a long term economy car. This would be the car!
