I've not seen many people neatly summarise such a complex issue. This is a fantastic video, keep it up mate!

The graphics for this video were quite impressive, and they worked really well! Also thank you for presenting a well balanced and researched view on this issue, rather than the usual demolish everything and replace it with ultra high density housing view that is common with many urban planning creators. One thing I feel Sydney did wrong a long time ago was not leave the original CBD area as a heritage area, more like a museum, and created a new modern CBD area some distance away with High-rise towers and high density housing like many other European countries did. But that ship has long sailed. Your idea of repurposing of original buildings to cater for more modern demand while retaining some of their character would seem an excellent compromise. Excellent video with which I was pleasantly surprised!

Thanks, I'm really proud of how the graphics turned out, and the main goal for me was to try and provide a balanced view. It would have also been nice to preserve some of the old buildings in the CBD and create a new-ish one, which some cities have done (like Paris), but I'm not sure how it'd work in Sydney, but like you said, that ship has sailed.

Only answer to housing affordability is increasing supply, its diabolical that it has taken 24 years to step in and impose common sense on local councils. First home buyers grant was introduced in 2000, and should have been called increase housing prices act 2000.

A heritage listing should really have any strength if the council is on track to meeting its housing target (which need to reflect demand) and heritage protected quality is the last/best of its kind in some kind of way Heritage doesn’t exist in isolation, if the act of preserving it is an opportunity cost to wider community (housing targets) it should be up for debate & have to undergo routine review. Many building are added to heritage overlays without knowledge of the owners, which in many case own occupier mortgage payers. The whole system is cooked
