I've been a hero guy since the first edition champions (grey cover ) fifth (FRED: Fifth. Revise EDition) and it's source books (fantasy, star, dark champions, etc) are my favorite to date.

Your are a dam god send. I am trying to do my first Hero system based game and I watch 3 separate videos supposedly to help you understand the game. They were so bad. Thank you for doing such a good job. Please more Hero System type videos. Maybe specific to Champions, Fantasy Hero or Space Hero would be appreciated.

Another great Hero System video! Keep'em coming. Perhaps cover some of the other genres of Hero? Pulp, Fantasy, Star etc.?

I honestly really love Champions 5e from a design perspective, so that's definitely one I'm going to cover. (Vanilla answer, I know.) Particularly how it strings up all the rules from HERO 5e so you can get "off the rack" supers game. (Ideal for if you're more accustomed to say, D&D where you pick a few sets of abilities from a list and you're good to go.) With the options for tinkering around being on the table since, well, it was made using HERO System.

One more downside of Variable Power Pools, particularly when allowed to reconfigure powers in combat, it that they can really slow a game down as the table waits for a player to work out the changes. One way around this is to encourage (or even require) the player to come up with a list of powers they think would be most common, kind of like a cookbook. Then, as new powers are created, add them to the list so the player will (hopefully) only have to choose new powers without wasting time at the table.

More or less my thoughts on the matter.

The way I try to understand Power Frame Works is liken it to JSON or XML where each nodes can be skills, powers, actions, etc. When a node is affected by something, every capabilities within the node are also affected

A very apt comparison!

So, I like Hero System because of how the power system is designed.. you can build a wild variety of things with it, even different magic systems :) Does The Dark Eye have something similar?

If DSA has anything similar to Hero's powers, I'm not aware of it. Though it might be unlikely, since spells in DSA are more skills with extraordinary effects. The biggest thing that DSA does that reminds me of Hero is that professions(classes) in DSA are easily modifiable, like templates.

@@AaronderSchaedel , yes, correct with DSA. With 4th edition they introduced a point-buy system, but that was more like making a poin-buy-system out of D&D. Not nearly as flexible as the HERO System or most other universal systems.
