I just found your channel from this series of videos, and they were excellent! I'm not Christian (I'm an Israeli jew), but your channel definitely seems interesting and I'll watch a few more videos. I only found one mistake in your entire series, where you accidentally switched between two Hebrew words (and some mispronounciations).

I just started reading the bible and I started reading chronological. But at some point I decided to go off the chronological order since its more fun to not know what to expect. Then eventually I started reading jesaja (3 days ago) and I was super catched. since i loved everything related to ancient cultures, their history campaign's etc. Anyways nobody ever told me what kind of stories the bible even has. I love it❤. Also thanks for the video and the insights. With this kind of stories my believe actually starts growing more and more

In Isaiah chapter 37 verse 35 For I will defend this city to save it, for Mine own sake, and for My servant David's sake.this was gods guarantee to Isaiah and hezkiah that Jerusalem will not be destroyed then the angel of death killed out the army of Sennacherib, Why didn’t God keep his promise forever to king David? 115 years later the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar came laid siege on Jerusalem and destroyed the holy temple? The answer lies in psalms chapter 89 gods promise was contingent that his people follow in his ways and not worship other gods, king hezkiah was a very righteous king. In general Josephus is much accurate, Herodotus constantly spinning things his way

33 years in the Army as a colonel, I always read that portion of Isaiah from the perspective of the "angel" being a plague of some sorts. The mice idea seems very realistic, or the fleas that carry the plague or the disease Hantavirus which is a very real threat to soldiers in the field as they camp.

This series in Isaiah has been great, I have learned a lot from it. With that note, are there any direct relations in the Jewish scriptures between "angels" (or angel of the Lord) and diseases? If so, what implications could that have for the tenth plague of Egypt? (and anyone is free to give their thoughts). Anyway, thank you for the video.
@schwertdesgeistes

Good point. Compare the account of David's punishment for numbering the people: "Then Yahweh sent a plague into Israel [...] seventy thousand men died. When the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem..." (2. Sam. 24:15-16) The somewhat similar story of the sudden disease in Numbers 17 also comes to mind, though an angel is not explicitly mentioned. I would say there certainly seems to be a connection in biblical thought between plagues and divine punishment and then maybe secondarily to angels as a consequence, as they are God's agents. This conceptual link could possibly add some plausibility to the "plague-hypothesis" regarding the siege of Jerusalem. In regards to the tenth plague of Egypt, in my opinion, we do see this pattern of angels carrying out God's punishment - but if we take the account seriously, a natural sickness can't be in view as it wouldn't specifically pick out all of Egypt's first born and only them.

Thank you for these excellent teaching videos. You explained that a possible reason the Assyrians left Jerusalem was because of a plague. I have been reading Isaiah 26, and with the current "social-distancing" and "lockdown" here due to the Covid-19, I have wondered if Isaiah 26 verses 20-21 refers to social distancing: 20. "Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by." 21. "See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer." In this Isaiah 26 verse 19, could this reference to "his wrath", actually mean a plague? For example, during the first passover in Egypt uses the phrase "destructive plague": " I am the LORD. ........... when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt." (Exodus 12 verses 12-13) The principle of "social distancing" and "lockdown" was used before we understood the cause to be bacterial or viral infections. For example: - In the Bible people with leprosy were sent away from the town, - During the "Plague of Athens" (430BC) the Spartans attacking Athens left: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_of_Athens - During the Plague of 1666 in England, the rector of village of Eyam in Derbyshire, organised for the village to self-isolated to prevent its spread to neighbouring villages: "By spring 1666 a newly appointed rector proposed that, for the sake of other plague-free towns in the Peak District region, the village should self-isolate..........The villagers knew to avoid contact with other households, so the Sunday church service was held outdoors." - from: www.rms.com/blog/2020/02/05/the-coronavirus-outbreak-part-two-self-isolation-and-quarantine/

@Nos Mor ! Your said right. You have forgotten one thing that Egypt was ruled by Greek ruler. The most famous one was queen Cleopatra. Though, Herodotus was a Greek, he accounted for Egypt; his records preserved in Egypt. it is exactly like this, if you were a Greek origin in USA wrote the record of US history; readers of the future will account you as American historian. So, Herodotus is Egyptian writer; there is no mistake in his narration.

Herodotus wasn't an eye witness and was known for providing the basic bones of an event finished off with a touch of the fantastic. A bit like the bible. I like the fact that these videos don't miss out a lot of basic facts,like other Christian ones deliberately do, and present a fairly balanced view of events.Obviously if your Jewish or Christian then you have to believe the bible. If you can't believe in the supernatural then you have to weigh up the evidence available and come up with your own conclusions.
