Ukrainian paratroopers from the 79th Air Assault Brigade, together with other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, destroyed more than 300 units of Russian equipment in six months of fighting near Novomykhaylivka in the Donetsk region. The battle for the small village, which was previously home to only 1,500 people, began in late autumn.
To capture Novomykhaylivka, the Russians concentrated 10 brigades and regiments, totaling up to 30,000 soldiers on a narrow section of the front line. "Every day, the Russians throw tanks and armored fighting vehicles into the attack, without sparing the infantry. We destroyed 314 units of enemy equipment," the Ukrainian military reported, which also released a map documenting the destroyed Russian equipment.
The brigade confirmed that this information is up to date to date. "Novomykhaylivka and its surroundings are today one of the largest cemeteries of enemy equipment from the Russian-Ukrainian war. Thousands of Russian invaders suffered a shameful death here," they added.
Novomykhaylivka is located about 12 kilometers south of Mariinka, which Russian forces have been trying to capture since 2014. Russian attacks have intensified since early October 2023 and they now control the site where Mariinka once stood, although the settlement itself no longer exists.
Earlier reports noted that paratroopers from the 79th Air Assault Brigade successfully repelled yet another Russian attack near Novomykhaylivka.
