PDB is a great host. Speaks well, studies the material, notices the dents and edges of information and can see right to the heart of the conversation. He's underrated.

I regularly follow PBD, being an immigrant to Australia myself he is an inspiration for me. I too was never fond of reading but since I heard him 2 years ago how important it is to read I have become addicted to reading. He also inspired me how not to play victim which unfortunately many immigrants succumb to.

Very insightful conversation. Listened to a few PDB podcasts, and was a bit turned away by the manner he expressed his opinion. Now it makes more sense as to why; being immigrant myself share quite a lot of sentiment. USA is longing for revival of spirit, dignity and respect. John Anderson, as always, high class, quality, respectable conversation. Thank you both!

You raised the point there John of “fathers”. I remember you doing a ‘thing’ about fathers. My husband is , was a good man but not a good father. It’s a hard thing to deal with in our retirement. I want to feel contentment as a couple but I am disappointed in his lack of maleness as a father.

Had we let GM or other big companies go down, then just like Hayek suggests, from that loss new life would be born. The guest suggested that Ford would buy them. Maybe they would have, or maybe a dozen or more new companies would have emerged. Some current employees and middle management would have had a great idea, and would have gone for it! It would have led to better technology and creations than we did see (which we really didn’t see much). In the mid-90s, we as a US culture adopted the view that pain is evil and must be eliminated in life. You saw that first with the OxyContin debacle, but also in that same time we started seeing the “every kid gets a trophy” and soon enough public schools started saying in the early ‘00s that teachers could not fail students or give a 0 grade if the child didn’t even turn in work. I see no way that we will ever fix this; like the guest said, we are now very soft. We are addicted to luxury and ease, and there’s no real way to turn that around.
