I wasn’t shocked at all. I actually live near Hershey, Pennsylvania (the town where the production is located). They have an amusement park there and inside is a place called chocolate world. It’s every snack you could really think of. They have a mini ride dedicated to telling that same story you told. It’s a really nice place to visit too. My family goes to Hershey Park many times a year. They’re a very respectable brand.

I want to tell you that I'm very thankful I found and subscribed to such a wonderful and highly intelligent individual and channel as yourself. Your videos are very informative and add a little spice to the experience, I feel, that helps me relate. I use your videos as they play to listen and educate myself when I am doing highly mundane tasks (wash/bathroom stuff, writing, et cetera) and they go along so well with those tasks I have become hooked on them. I say this because my brain seems to actively listen to them, understand them during these times and I feel I treat them with more respect and attention. Regardless of how I watch, I do watch them - very attentively. I consider them a good course on education despite the opinions of the narrator (you). I feel that even though you voice your findings, they are clearly unbiased in most respects and represent a very fair and analyzed view of the subjects. I ask you to continue your videos and I thank you humbly from the bottom of my heart that you chose to commit to this. It is such a wonderful series - such as these about companies - and anything else you produce I am very pleased by. I know I am just one voice, but as that one voice, as I say **thank you very much**!!!

Not gonna lie, that Hersheys gold bar sounds really good, but I've only seen those "cookie layer crunch bars" in super markets, not at the typical bodega/ delis I usually get my snacks from. Maybe the reason for their underperformance is due to the fact that most people shopping at super markets aren't looking for snacks, and if they are, they're probably looking for stuff they know they'll like. Not some "cookie-whatever it's called." Seems like they were trying to target a more "high end" snack market and it didn't go over well. Nice video as always.

I feel like people are getting The Hershey Company, and Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company confused. In the town of Hershey in Pennsylvania, Hersheypark, Chocolate World, The Hershey Lodge, and other fun things are owned by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company. The Hershey Company (the part that makes all of the chocolate) doesn't have much of an affect on the town. Their headquarters is there, and that's about it. The two are separate companies, that both use the same IPs. That's why those things weren't mentioned in the video.

Hersey would have quite a hard time in Europe, their chocolate can't compete with European Brands, especially in countries like Switzerland, Belgium and France. The first time I tasted Hersey's kisses, I spat it out because it tastes like cheap chocolate. I brought some back and everyone agreed they were not good. I think they would have better luck with some of their other brands like Reese's, but the market is pretty saturated.

I am surprised this video didnt mention Ronzoni, San Giorgio, and some other pasta brands, Hershey owned Ronzoni from 1990-1999, meaning at the time of the video, it was Hershey owned. San Giorgio was from 1966-1999. In 1999 Hershey spun off all their pasta brands to get cash to expand in chocolate, but still owned a 30% stake in the new company until 2021 when that was fully sold to another company, fully divesting Hershey's from Pasta

yes .. once upon a time in America a Hershey bar could be bought for 10c or 3 for a quarter/25c .. sugar price supports (mostly for Hawaii) in America were a production issue from the mid 80's on till the domestic Sugar Beet industry broke the Hawaiian Cane market (Hawaii finally closed its last sugar cane factory a couple of years ago) .. availability of Beet sugar has brought America sugar in line with world markets; yet prices for finished goods remain high, as the candy industry has consolidated (less competition) and this video shows its easier to BUY market share than to EARN it.

They are huge and have the backing of Hershey Foods. Milton Hershey School was started by Milton and Catherine Hershey because they couldn't have children. So they started and orphanage for boys. Now it is a boarding school for kids who's parents make less than $15,000 a year. My grandfather went there and it is incredible. They are so rich because not only did Milton leave his fortune to the school when he and his wife died, but a penny from every Hershey bar goes to the school! That's a crap ton of money. Last year, they built and tore down an auditorium so they could stay a non profit. So yah, Hershey is not just Hershey Foods. Just a side note, Mark Hershey Farms, the ones who make the ice cream, while being in Palmyra, a neighboring town, are not Hershey foods! They are different, Hershey doesn't make ice cream that isn't available outside HERCo property.

Hey, this trilogy gave me an idea for another series. It seems like a massive portion of the candy and snack industry is divided up between a small handful of companies, so it would be neat to look into what other industries are also only held by a handful of companies. The tool industry comes to mind for me, since I do a lot of DIY stuff. It seems like most of the brands of tools we see on shelves are owned by either TTI or Stanley Black & Decker, with some exceptions being owned by major retailers and the real exception being Makita, which is fully independant and doesn't own any other brands. If nothing else, I would love to see a video on Makita, they look like they have a really interesting story, especially if used as contrast to the rest of the tool sector.

MegaCrasherMusic nope. Taco bell is yum brands with KFC and pizza hut. Fritos, lays, dorittos, ruffles and most chips are Pepsi brands. I the bottled water brands and lot of food. Pepsi has bigger market share than coke.

I worked as a consultant at Hershey in 2018. It’s worth mentioning the philanthropic story of the Milton Hershey school because that philanthropy still drives the core business today. Much of what they do as a business is to ensure they can continue Miltons commitment to serving underserved children. Fascinating story. I loved working there.

They do not. Hersheypark used to be owned by Hershey Chocolate Corporation until 1927. That year, the non-food production businesses were separated into its own company (this included the amusement park, the electric company, the water company, the laundry, a nursery, and other businesses), called Hershey Estates. Today, that company is called Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company.

I worked for the company (Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company) between 2001 and 2015. We didn't make chocolate. The Hershey Company is owned by the Hershey Trust Company, which this video was not about. The Hershey Trust Company owns The Hershey Company via majority ownership of the public stock. The Hershey Trust Company owns Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company through sole private ownership. These two companies are separate. The businesses were deliberately divided, so, in the event the chocolate company ever failed, it wouldn't take the town of Hershey with it. So no, The Hershey Company does not own Hersheypark, the Hershey Trust Company does.

Hershey is actually bigger than what you made it out to be in this video. You didn’t mention Milton Hershey School (which has a really special place in my heart), Hershey’s Chocolate World (in PA and NYC), Hersheypark, and the whole town of Hershey, PA and Hershey, Cuba. You should make a whole other video on Hershey as a whole. Like you said; Milt has a seriously inspiring story and I love it.

I's a "tell" that in your paragraph at 8:00 the 4 companies that are cited at the end are :Pepsi, Mars, Mondelez, and Kellogg. That Ms. Buck chose those specific brands to compare to (out of all the ones that trail behind Hershey in that category) indicates what directions Hershey will take in trying to expand, probably through acquisition over anything else.

Prediction: Hersey's Gold will be a flop. Why? Because you can't fool the customer THAT much. A dry pretzel is just a bunch of air surrounded by a bit of crunch, and the inclusion of pretzels into candy therefore represents an attempt to replace a percentage of the candy with air. It's basically the same thing they tried with their cookie-candy and failed, but with even more air. You can replace chocolate with cheaper caramel and nuts and get away with it because people like caramel and nuts. They like crunchy things, but not to the extent that they're going to pay two bucks for a crunchy bar that weighs half of what a same-price solid chocolate bar weighs. After all, you can always buys a bag of pretzels and alternate your snacking. I have an idea for Hersey: fire your marketing idiots and use the salary and ad-campaign savings to drop prices 50c a bar to start recovering lost market-share.
