Excellent video, with proper comparison and relevant points of thought on both these pairs of gloves. However, I'd like to put an interesting allrounder pair of gloves in the spotlight: meet the Hestra Ergo Grip Active Wool Terry! Living in Sweden (where Hestra is a local brand), I have collected a bunch of Hestra gloves, always aiming at some good deals in different online shops here. That means that amongst other types of gloves, I have both the Fält Gloves (yellow) and the Ergo Grip Actives (both yellow/brown and all black versions - I couldn't resist to take both). Then I only later discovered the Ergo Grip Active Wool Terry gloves, which basically are the Ergo Grip gloves with a warming lining on the inside... and I must say that those are very much the middle ground between the two gloves mentioned in this video. Both grippy and warming while offering excellent dexterity, these are my go-to gloves from later autumn to early spring. The Fält Gloves are also having a warm lining, but the dexterity sometimes leaves a lot to desire, due to the bulkiness of the gloves. Okay, these may well be more enduring and you can swap the lining for a new one, but the advantages of the Ergo Grip Active Wool Terry far overcome those USP's imho. So for those in the market for gloves that want a bit of both of the gloves reviewed in this video, I can strongly recommend the Ergo Grip Active Wool Terry's while in autumn/spring the Ergo Grip Actives are a bliss at protecting your hands without being too warm. When handling rougher tools like a proper cleaving axe and saw, while dealing with bigger and chunkier pieces of wood, I recommend the Fält gloves due to these being more forgiving the rougher work while offering more protection.

Got the Fält gloves 2020 spring because of this video. Absolutely the best gloves I've ever had. Very good when you need to re-arrange your long fire or warm your hands after filleting many fish in cold weather. Used them for bicycling in cold weather, used them to move hot pans etc out of the fire, used them in a walk-in freezer to re-arrange stuff. The are a bit stiff for extended work, but better then those thick goatskin workgloves. You can still feel the surface details with them on. I bring these for any outdoor stuff, there's always a fire you need to sort out or just to warm up your hands after dealing with cold water for extended time. Thanks for your video and introducing me to Hestra. I have since bought more of their gloves.

I got the Fält Guide Gloves this Christmas, and took them out yesterday for a 5-summit winter adventure. I am absolutely in love with them. They're breaking in wonderfully and feel absolutely bulletproof. Warm warm warm too. Really like the modularity of being able to swap out a liner for whatever the weather calls for. I have mittens for extreme weather summits, but these Hestras will take me from the parking lot to the treeline and beyond with maximum comfort and confidence. Really happy with them. Thanks, its videos like these that really turned me on to the glove. I am slowly turning Swedish with my head to toe Fjallraven and now Hestra combo, lol.

Couldn't agree more about the liner gloves. Not many people realise to use them. I live in Finnish lapland and do film work as a soundguy and thin wool liners are my savior on really cold days and when handling my gear. They make a huge difference in the time it takes for your fingers to warm back up again. I would also add a pair of warm mittens to this list like hestra heli ski's. Great camera work btw :)

Great review Ted! I have the white/yellow Guide gloves and I think they are really nice. My only complaint is that I don't feel safe handling an axe or hatchet with them when using the liner. The liner just prevents my fingers from bending enough, so in order to get a strong enough grip, I really stress my fingers. Of course it's easy enough to take the liner out when swinging an axe or hatchet, but it's something worth noting. I actually don't even use the liner but mostly because I use them as work gloves for gathering and processing firewood, and handling things near/on a fire, during canoe trips (don't need for hikes really). Overall great gloves as you said!

Thanks for your comment! Come to think of it I actually rarely use them without the liner, I do get what you mean with the fingers not bending enough, don’t know if you’ve seen my axe video but I have a pretty small axe, and a small handle so I get a good grip anyways. I also have the hestra work gloves, have you tried them? Thanks for your support!

Hey Ted! I am commenting a bit later than I'd like to but let's go with "better late than never"! :) All in all thanks for the review, indeed you don't find a lot of reviews of gear like gloves or hatchet for that matter. Personally I really liked the Ergo Grip Active gloves with possible combination with the liner you show at the end for the chilly days. Adding them to the long list of gear I'll need to buy! As for the video from technical point of view I have some remarks, good ones as well as (I hope) constructive criticism: - production quality and overall "smoothness" of the video has improved - your English fluency has gone up :) this ties to the aforementioned "smoothness" - I really liked the outro song - B-roll footage is very nice on the other hand: - there are many instances of shakiness where I would definitely expect steady camera footage; I'd accept if some real action was going on but since you are basically presenting the gloves without moving, I don't understand why the camera is shaking so much (i.e. around 0:38, 1:44 or 4:50) even while right after some of these there's another angle of the same shot with perfectly steady camera - visibly out of focus shots (i.e. around 5:40 or 6:48) And now on to your newest video! ;) --- Michal

Wow! Thanks a lot for your comment, I really like reading this! So glad you took your time to write it! As you can tell this is a “work in progress” sort of thing! All the good things that you mention, except from my English maybe, is due to my good friend and partner Abbe, he’s a super talented guy! He’s helped me a lot, both teaching and actual filming! In this specific video we tried out multi cam where some shots were handheld and then there was a camera rolling all the time on a tripod, long story short there was a lot of moving parts and little time, we could have done a better job with some of the shots in this video, I agree! There will be many more to come and I’m looking forward to more feedback from you! Keep it coming!

they sizes are with the liner, so yes like you mention, u can use them for summer as well, it could be nice to keep the liner if you are grabbing hot pans and pots or tending to the fire as it will protect you from heat too. but yeah, for the bigger things I would say that the gloves without the liner would work too. smaller things where dexterity and fingertip feeling is necessary you might be better of with the ergo grip gloves perhaps! : )

BTW Ted, how do the Falt gloves breath during aerobic exercise. Do they trap sweat? Can you use them for say, cross country skiing, or would something like the Hestra Army Leather Patrol (which has a textile on the backhand), be more appropriate? Breathability is important to me as I have had an experience of camping out in the snow with Goretex lined ski gloves. The sweat trapped on the inside caused the glove to freeze overnight, making the gloves ice cold and rock solid in the morning. This is an experience I do not want to repeat.

Två av tre är väl inte illa? Använder Skullman istället för Ergohandskarna. De kanske får bli en julklapp till mig själv.

It wold have to be melting temps and you’d probably need to dip them in water for a a long time for that to happen

How do the outer gloves feel without the liners? Do they feel really big?
@TedWeirum

Hey, the feel fine, you still get a good grip and they are still good for normal use, on warmer days they’re great for protection when using an axe or a saw. Thanks for watching brother!
