Each side of a hexagon is 92 1/2" long, so each hexagon is about 150 square feet, making the total deck a little more than 300 square feet. The dimensions were dictated by the size of the decking material we could get. Trex (the composite deck board) was available in 16' lengths. We wanted to have the deck boards run in the radial pattern (instead of all running in the same direction) so we built the framing underneath in similar segments. I think it was a lot more interesting than a square deck and there was very little material wasted.
