I love your videos! I do a Chickens 101 Power Point presentation at my TSC store and others in my district and I have your channel as a great resource on different breeds!

That is awesome! Let us know if there is a breed we haven’t spotlighted that you’d like to see.

I ordered two Cochin hens, but they sent me two Roos instead 😢. I rehomed one of them because I did not want to males in my flock, but so far kept the other one. He reminds me of our pugs. Super gentle, big, lazy and docile. He’s just starting to crow, and will only do this a few times after the sun has been up for awhile. I hope he continues to be lazy and docile so I don’t have to re-home him. Why do the roosters always end up to be my most favorite chickens. 🤦🏻♀️ He will be 18 weeks tomorrow. So far from being mature. Curious if anyone else has a barred Cochin rooster and what they are like.

My neighbor gave me 2 cochin roosters to butcher and eat, I butcher the largest and let the other one out to free range. I give him some dog food and veggies, and just let him gather the natural grass seed and bugs. The other day I was talking to my neighbor and she found out I kept the 1 rooster so when this next batch of chicks get of age she said she would give me a few hens, now I'm converting a old shed into a coop .. That's all I know about cochin that's why I'm here looking for info on the breed...

I see them as a double-edges sword. They look cool, but can create issues.

How are they with foraging? I could use some serious vole control and I’m not to sure the Easter Eggers will do the job. I know our RIR took care of a few but I’m thinking a larger bird might work out. 🤷♂️ Unfortunately we can’t have a dog or cat at the moment and pesticides are NOT an option.

While the Cochin will love foraging, they probably won't get a large portion of their diet from it, and will rely primarily on feed. Not sure if they will take care of voles, my cat does that for us.

Wow learn something new everyday! I have a coach and mix as I think it's not purebred. I believe it to be a slow grower smaller than the other chicks. I didn't know it could take up to 2 years for them to fully mature! But yes being pretty is a huge reason to have them around on top of getting eggs here and there. *Correction* Broody not pretty, but they are pretty too and nice to look at.

Oh… how about an AMA (ask me anything) video? My question would be what brought you to KZitem? Keep up the great work guys and you will continue to grow! 😎

Thanks for the idea! We've been thinking about doing that as part of our 2nd anniversary in January. We'll solicit questions ahead of time if we do.
