Great editing and summary of your zoned high-velocity system. It's a massive upgrade compared to a traditional single-zone furnace heating source. Also, your air handler can provide heat using hot water or heat pump, meaning it can modulate the heating output based on the required load, unlike a furnace.

Still trying to figure out what cooling system will go in my home. The original central unit caused damage to my ceiling by bringing it down. Replaced roofing and don't plan on doing that type because of potential leaks in ceiling. Then had a company give me quotes on central heating even though it sounds like the only option for me and the cost was outrageous at $14000. Have very small attic and doing mini split system will only create more holes to walls. Not sure what to get at this point.

Consult and get quotes from 5+ HVAC contractors. You will learn something from each company and be able to make an informed decision.

A few questions…. Do you only need 1 return for the whole system? Does that system run off an air to water heat pump or air to air? How is the power usage? I am looking to go this route. Looking to get a gas hydronic system for the heat but figured if I went heat pump for the cooling system, I would have the option to feed that into my heated floor system. Like if gas got too expensive or hard to deliver. I like my options!!

1) That will vary depending on your home & HVAC design. Mine has multiple returns (x3). 2) Air to air 3) Good

How’s the noise level near the vents? I’m concerned about paying a premium, and ending up with unwanted noise from the airflow.
@simpsonpropertiesltd

The noise level is louder compared to a conventional HVAC system. Especially, if a vent is partially or fully closed. A comparison is when you’re on an airplane and close a vent. I have become use to the sound and the trade off in having a zoned system is worth it compared to a traditional HVAC system IMO.

@@simpsonpropertiesltd Thanks for your response! I’m missing why I keep seeing people commenting about zoning. Traditional HVAC can be zoned. It’s done often everywhere I’ve ever worked. Clients don’t often want to pay for the add AND contractors sometimes don’t know the correct way to implement zones AND there’s rarely enough space planned for HVAC in general. Anyhow, right or wrong that’s what I’ve seen.

@@charlesdunaway608 I hear you on that misconception. Since my home has 6 levels, it would be tough to get away with one “zoned system” traditional air handler. We would of had to install two air handlers. With the hi-velocity system it works no problem with one air handler in the basement. Their are pros and cons to all HVAC products/designs. You have to see what works best for your budget & project.

How did you choose Ecosmart for your equipment. I’m deep into research and I see Hi-Velocity, max air, Unico and Spacepak. No one locally really deals with any of them lol. Same boat - IBC boiler, but old air handler in the attic.

I've been considering HV systems for a very large custom home I'm designing. The walls are all rammed earth (23" thick) and the daily temperature all year long is between 60º and 80º with low humidity. The house may not need cooling or heat but a few times a year (large gatherings or the rare 'hot' day when temp's climb to 83º. But with a multi-million dollar home that last thing I want to do is not give them an option to heat or cool. Recommendations?

You could look into ductless mini split units.

Those look like sh*t in 25,000+ sq. ft. mansion. I've used them in urban lofts and they work and look acceptable in those environments, but not with 23" thick rammed earth walls and 13' ceilings. @@simpsonpropertiesltd

Thanks! There is no cut and dry answer to that question. Going the route I did with radiant heat as a primary heat source & a zoned hi-velocity system for AC. Would be much more expensive than installing a conventional ducted HVAC system.
