One thing I do before this pushing exercise is I apply a warm castor oil compress across my abdomen to help relax my diaphragm. It's soothing and relaxing and at the same time I breathe deeply as well. If you don't have castor oil, I'm sure just a warm compress or hot water bottle would still be relaxing. Before this, I went to see my naturopathic doctor, who used acupuncture to relax the diaphragm, then he manually pushed under my ribs on the left and pulled my stomach down away from the rib cage. He told me I could do this at home, too. He has treated dozens of hiatal hernias successfully over the years, so I was glad I went to see him.

The best thing I did to help the hiatal hernia was to go low carb. I lost almost 20 pounds, most of it in my abdomen. No more fat belly, no more pressure. The low carb diet also completely cured my reflux. If the hiatal hernia is acting up, you can also try standing up straight, raise your arms, and stretch back and to the left.
@ebsmokymtn9445
3 жыл бұрын
Yep, another is to stand-up straight; rise on your toes, then drop-down quick to plant your heel to the floor. You can cushion your heel by stopping a fraction before contact with the floor to get the same effect without the high-impact using the sudden gravity-assisted deceleration/stop pushing the Hiatal hernia back down lower on your esophagus and into a less aggravating position.

I keep thinking it's the h.pylori I have been diagnosed with (but the results said it is a non-virile variety so odd...I know most of the people in the world have h.pylori in their symptoms and hopefully don't feel as bad as I do.) I thought maybe SIBO but the sliding hernia theory makes sense. My chiropractor has "adjusted" my stomach-yes it's a thing for those who don't know and can help- but it hasn't relieved my symptoms. I have been working to detoxify my liver and body and support both my gallbladder and pancreatic fuction. I don't doubt that it's low stomach acid (getting older, stress, h.pylori? ) but I may also have an ulcer (h.pylori?) so am a bit afraid of trying the betaine HCL. I know that drinking some ACV does help me feel better. I like this idea of working on the adhesions (?)- loosening everything up around the rib cage and also working on the vagus nerve (you can google that as well). Also mindfulness when eating and as the dr. says, not over-snacking, which I tend to do. My weirdest and most awful symptom is that I can bloat up instantly after swalllowing a vitamin and water, e.g. I don't understand how this happens, i.e. what is happening and why. Dr. Berg can you please comment? I am so tired of suffering with this. It's going on 4 years now and I have to eat my last meal by around 6 p.m. or really suffer.

One of the best methods to get relief from a hiatus hernia, is to drink as much water that your stomach will hold, and then jump up and down. Or even better jump off a chair. The weight of the water in your stomach will pull the small portion of your stomach that was preventing the valve from working, re-align your hiatus valve with your stomach and the valve will close off and do its job of stopping your stomach acids escaping and causing you all your problems.

I felt a release when I pushed in and up on the right side. I have had hiatus hernia since I was 20. At 20 I was in a right size body, 120lbs. I’m 63 now. Body mass greater. For me the hiatus hernia mostly kicks in when I’m “stressed”, emotional issues surfacing, perceptions and beliefs that are not in right relationship. I feel pressure up by the gallbladder area, the sternum, the liver and the heart. I do emotional-mind-body release work, and ortho-bionomy to shift my stomach into position. It usually has moved to the right affecting the different structures near the hiatus. So there’s almost like a tug-of-war. Thanks for the info doc.

I’ve just found your channel and am so thankful! I took a PPI for over 20 years. I started on it at 8 years old as I was diagnosed with GERD at that age. The PPI has been so so bad for me. I’ve found a functional medical clinic and over the past year they have helped me uncover all of my health issues. Long story short, the PPI set the stage for SIBO and leaky gut which I’ve dealt with for at least 10 years, culminating in an autoimmune disease. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last year at age 30. I slowly weaned off the PPI for the last 5 months and as of 2 weeks ago I took my last dose! Since then I have had near constant heartburn and acid reflux. I’m currently doing a betaine HCL challenge, and hoping the issue will be solved. I have every single symptom of low stomach acid. It was also discovered that I have a small hiatal hernia (2cm) so trying to understand how much of a role that is playing in my GERD. Thank you so much for your incredibly informative videos! This has been a long process for me but I am feeling so much more hopeful!

I feel you man - Not 20 years for me, nearly two, I won't go into the cause but they aren't the usual ones, was more or less perfectly healthy and then suddenly onset of chest and throat burning and within a couple months, hiatus hernia, erosive gastritis and then took PPI and got SIBO immediately. nearly a year on and I still haven't opted for functional medicine and just got worse - I guess I'll have to pay for it even though I haven't had any income for years as I've been in too much pain. But bottom line is, don't take the drugs guys, and go for functional medicine before it gets too late.

@@slee7991 functional medicine looks at root causes and views the body holistically. Rather than just giving a medication to cover up the symptoms, functional medicine digs deeper to understand why you have the issues in the first place and solve the underlying problem. And the HCL challenge is where you take Betaine HCL to see if the issue is actually low stomach acid rather than too much stomach acid (which is a common misdiagnosis). Update for me is that low HCL was for sure my root cause! And now after 20 years on a PPI I’ve gotten off the medication, and now take a bunch of HCL pills before each meal and I have absolutely no more heartburn of GERD symptoms, my food doesn’t sit like a rock in my stomach for 6 hours, virtually no bloating or pain anymore and so far no relapse of SIBO.

@@lisaisaak892 so your problem wasn't caused by a hernia? How many hcl pills do you take? I've just been taking the recommended 2 for a day, nothing so far. Are you symptoms free now?
