Something that is rarely covered in DAP reviews is playlist creation/management. I've tested about a dozen players over the past several years and I find that playlist functionality is usually either too limited or outright buggy. Best I've found so far is on the Cowon Plenue D. When you get a chance, please test/demo how playlists are created, populated, and managed on the Hiby R3. Thanks very much.

Hello- Can you add/edit album art on the player itself or does it have to be done on a computer and then transferred to the player ?

It would have to be done on the computer as far as I know, you would probably need a player that runs android to do something like that.

I am not sure about pandora, I don't think it can work on the R3 directly, but it is able to stream internet radio stations. I think you need to know the URL to add them.

I'm considering the Hiby R3 as basically want to replace iPod Classic but have more capacity. My music is mostly ALAC, AAC or MP3 and priority for me is that gapless playback is faultless across all formats (for mix/live albums, etc.) and that I can have album-based replay gain/soundcheck. Is this player man enough to match my old iPod's functionality?
@SupraWes
6 жыл бұрын
So far I have played FLAC ALAC and MP3 in it with no problems. I am not sure how it works when mixing them, I keep different cards with different file types depending on what I am doing, for instance I have a card of MP3 downloads I got from purchaed vinyl records. I have a card with my favorite albums in ALAC, and I have another card with FLAC rips of new or used CD's that I have recently purchased for my collection and am getting to know. It does have a gapless playback option, I am not the one to judge if it's any good as it is not a feature that I have give much thought or notice to in the past. You can do replay gain by track or by album if you like. I never owned a Classic iPod so I cant say. If you dont care about having a balanced output this new one from Hidzi's looks really nice as well and for a lower price. www.kickstarter.com/projects/873263862/hidizs-ap80-next-generation-ultraportable-hifi-mus?ref=home_recommended

Thanks for the review. I think this was the first audio equipment review on KZitem where there wasn't a F BOMB every 10 seconds and I actually saw the person's face and not just the hands. Didn't think there was such a review till now. You also did not take the opportunity to go off on a rant that was irrelevant to the actual merchandise that you were reviewing. How refreshing.😁

I've actually been looking at MP3 players recently. They're so cheap now, I'm curious to see what one can get for $20-30. But this one is very tempting. It's really beautiful. It doesn't even matter that it can't power those headphones; one isn't likely to go out wearing those anyway. But a good test, nonetheless. You should do a follow up in a month or so.
@SupraWes

I think you would be better off using your phone than a $30 player, it most likely will have better components and be easier to use. I got some tips from other users and the large headphones are sounding good now.

Love mine, my only gripe is the artwork has that loading hesitation, but it's not the end of the world. I also noticed when I had two albums titled 'Rise' from different artists, the album art from the 2nd one I put in showed as the same artwork as the 1st, even though when I went into the Now Playing screen it showed as the correct artwork. If you need a bit more power from the R3 you might try a balanced cable, if your IEM's support them.
@SupraWes
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, hopefully future firmware updates can make the experience a little smoother but overall it is a nice device. It has plenty of power for the IEM's I have, its just a little weak when driving can's, I am sure there are balanced can's out there for me to try but I am not willing to spend a lot of money on this stuff as I don't use it regularly, maybe only a few times a week.

Good review, Wes. I'm fairly brutal with my mp3 player - from workouts, to barn work, to the car, so something this nice wouldn't work for me, but it is nice to see there are nice new players that better the older ipods that have since disappeared.
