I bought the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R for the same price a few months ago and they have been amazing for all content. I just hit the various toggles on the atmos app and switch between music and gaming. For gaming the positional accuracy exceeds anything I've used before. I did buy and return some vastly more expensive headsets and this outpaces them all. It would be interesting to see how they compare to this.

I just got these for $100 on Amazon and reviewed them there the other day. I get a much better bass performance out of them using my Fosi Audio N2 amp's bass boost switch, for sure. Stock, you get some bass but it's the usual somewhat light planar bass. I would EQ and amp boost them for more bass, once you do, you've got a much fuller sounding pair of planars on your hands. I almost always use the bass boost function on my headphone amps. Sometimes I'll kill it for classical or jazz, though.

As long as you're not searching for a heavy v shape bass heavy sound these are incredible. The sub bass extension is so ridiculous you can hear it sitting on your desk. They just do not respond to the boosted bass very well. They also are very power hungry and not quite capable of really being pushed that hard. Regardless if all you want is to hear what it's supposed to sound like grab em. They're better than your old ones guaranteed unless you've got something like the Sony WH-1000xm4 or something then that's just totally different usage scenario. They're really comfortable for all day sound with glasses, too and the design relies less on a perfect seal for the bass, they thump on the desk (not literally but you can perceive the sub bass which is unheard of on something with 40-50mm dynamic drivers).

@@codetrain020 Not even close, IMO. The Sundara's are better, no doubt. But they're not THAT much better. If you want a LEGITIMATE step up from the HE400se's in terms of open-back planar magnetics, you REALLY need to go up to HiFiMan's brand new "Edition XS" which has an MSRP of $500 but can be found new on AliExpress for $440. The new Edition XS is basically just the HiFiMan "Ananda" but w/ the IMO VASTLY more comfortable & ACTUALLY padded headband from the HE400se & similar, and now for like ≈-$100-$200 cheaper than before ($440-$500 vs ≈$600-$700).

My Topping Nx3s runs battery powered but with the bass boost on no EQ max volume will cause certain bass frequencies distort. I run it at roughly 3/4 volume normally. So maybe research the power output of that amp to the ohms of the headphones and see. They're not that power hungry just have their sweet spot
