@IlknurDemirkoparan I was logging in to say the exact same thing. a 16 oz bottle of Golden High Flow Medium is only around 20 bucks too!!! that makes it the best bang for your buck too. also, because it does not have pigment in it. your not "tinting" the color of the paint you want to thin.

To counteract a glossy finish (of inks) I have been mixing in AK's ultra matt varnish. It's a little faster than airbrushing the varnish separately. This is especially nice with the brush, but the paint does become really thin.
@RisingApe
2 жыл бұрын
Yup, as I say in the video you can apply varnish or mix in matte medium which works well enough, the paint thickens when you add medium. Honestly though, for the later stages I just use a different paint.

Loved the content and descriptions. The part where you compare the 3 paints on the model was SUPER DARK. This was unfortunate, because (for me) it was the MOST important part of the video. I wanted to see in a real world application what the difference is. Unfortunately I couldn't make it out (unlike the wet palette which was super well lit). I don’t do miniature figure painting, but I work usually quite small and very detailed on paper. I’m new to acrylics and I find it difficult to make those incredible fine lines, because of the thickness of acrylic paint, that I do can make with watercolor or India ink. When I dilute the paint a bit it becomes transparent. I don’t want to buy new paints to add to my existing paints, but I found out that Golden has a transparent high flow medium to increase the flow of paints. Do you think that’s the way for me to thin the paint for more detail, but without making the paint too transparent? Soon I want to paint miniature landscapes on small coins, at least that’s the plan, then I need to be able to make very small details.
@RisingApe
Жыл бұрын
I find that with decent quality paints you can get very fine lines with acrylics is mainly about brush control and having a decent sharp tip on your brush. That said try inks too, get something with high opacity and there are lots of colours to choose from.

Great Stuff! Is Golden Neutral Gray a good substitute for Citadel Grey Seer Primer to then use Contrast paints on? Not sure how close the color is and if the contrast paints will flow properly like the GW primer.
@RisingApe
2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I haven’t used it, but I wouldn’t get too hung up on the exact colour matching. As long as it is close enough it will give you the same end result. contrast paints flow more on golden because of its gloss surface. I have certainly never had any issues.
@scoobydruid

I added comment after finding Golden's color match link. Gray Seer = 40% Neutral Gray 5/ 60% Titanium White.

I need some advice. I'm trying to refill an old paint pen without spending any money. I have black acrylic paint, and I want to thin it out without it losing opacity. I don't have many options at my hand. I have water and I have flow paint medium, but unfortunately it is glossy. I maaay be able to find some isopropyl alcohol. Currently considering opening my black posca and just adding that to my fine tip pen, but I would rather not. Any suggestions/tips ?
@RisingApe
Ай бұрын
So the short answer is no, BUT you may be able to thin black acrylic with actual black ink. Also it depends on the black paint, try it and see, if it’s very good paint you may be able to dilute with a blend of water and medium but it may simply be too dilute. Inks are made differently so you’ll do better to just invest in the correct refill, ie molotow paints or golden.

They are so similar to artist inks, that I wonder if the difference is not stuff like the medium used, but more the marketing. (Artist) inks tend to be a little more fragile. As in they are easier to reactivate when you go over them with a contrast paint or a premade wash (although a layer of varnish helps prevent that). Have you encountered the the same problem with the High Flow range? Maybe worth testing. If they are like artists inks but a little tougher, than they would stand out in that way.
@RisingApe
2 жыл бұрын
I am sure the difference is the resins and binders they use, that’s basically the only difference between most paints. I have never had issues with them reactivating once dry, if you paint over when wet though, sure. I am always experimenting though so will muck about with this next time I use them.
