I agree... I want to like the MT15 so that I can buy it and have Mark's HUGE Alter Bridge tone but it sounds congested with too much low mids. I like the EVH... probably because it sounds like my soldano astroverb (aside from the slight hint of fuzzy fizz the EVH has). So now I will go back to being content with my amps! :) The only negative of the astroverb is the single channel, but it cleans up nicely with the guitar volume knob and I have a Blues Jr for a clean channel.

I agree with you. I'm a huge Alter Bridge/Tremonti fan so naturally I feel like I should appreciate the MT15 more. I've always loved the clarity in Tremonti's heavy riffs and I like his loyalty to analog equipment, but this EVH 5150 III was more pleasing to my ear. And that's okay too. The MTS goes from a real quiet TV volume to being too loud but the EVH's master is very gradual and accurate . it is very easy to dial in a low volume for late night playing with the EVH. It easily keeps up with my EVH 50w EL34 and sounds massive compared to my Friedman JJ Jr. It's not as refined as those two, the fx loop is very noisy, but it serves a purpose very well. It has clean cleans and high gain. No in between, no clean breakup, no mid gain warmth, no classic metal; it's a looser modern metal/hard rock high gain amp for under $1k that anyone can own.

After having both of these amps for a while I think if I had to chose one over the other it would be the PRS, not because it sounds better as I think they both sound great, but because the clean channel has it’s own EQ. The only thing missing on the PRS is a master volume, which isn’t all important and can be easily fixed by buying a volume box from eBay and running it through the effects loop. To me, both of these amps are spectacular. You opinion may vary because your tone choices may be different from mine, which is great because it would suck if we all sounded the same.

Awesome review/comparison... thank you so much! That's a sub...:) I really like both amps and for different reasons. I would love to hear a stereo track with both amps on both sides so 4 tracks in total. I have a feeling they would create a huge wall of "sitting perfectly in the mix kick ass" sound. Also, keep in mind that the SM57 notoriously tends to smother the center to upper midrange of certain amp/cab/speaker combinations which can lead to a loss of "body" or "substance" on recordings and I got the impression that's what's happening with the EVH here. The EVH DOES sound brighter and bitier by design but not to this extent I should think. I believe if you actually hear those amps in a room you won't get results as drastic but for this video's purpose I think the exageration is somehow pretty useful because it clearly emphasizes the different characteristics. Another mic... say a Lewitt tom mic... would have reduced the effects. I think I need to buy both of them, an ABY box, another 2x12 and destroy all the drummers on earth... 🖤

@@Silktribe I'm a sucker for blending amps, and both Eddie and Mark were known for using multiple amps. In theory it should sorta like blending a 800 with a Rectifier in a way .

Careful now, all the extra low mids of the PRS might really clutter the mix when employed in a band context.

@@davidfaustino4476 You must not know how to dial it in properly then cause I own this amp and it sounds great in our bands mix!

No boost, PRS all day! Add in the TS though and all of a sudden I like the EVH more... 🤔

Honestly I thought they both sounded very similar boosted. I like how the TS tamed some of the high end fizz on the evh. I went with the PRS but the evh is a great amp. I just didn't like that when you turn the volume up on the evh it thins the low thump thanks to the el84 power tubes. Hence I bought the 6l6 amp.

Just got the mt-15 and my God it slays every single other amp I've got!

I tried them both well in the shop ... they sound good, I'm EVH superfans but I think the MT15 is a bit more versatile because the clean channel receives the stompbox well, then it has two separate EQs, which you allow for perfect tone adjustment in every channel... however they are two amazing amps for their price and you should have both of them.

Thanks for the great video! To my ears, it's the Mt-15 all the way. No comparison.
